Yugioh Card Summoner

CH.763 The Sphere Field Tournament, part 3, Myrphe’s Awakening

I let Hiro have a moment. I know he isn’t a kid, but he also is only 9. His 10th birthday is coming up in the summer and I’ve been invited.

And I know the Crystalline people age strangely. They mature quite quickly when it comes to intelligence because their brains work strangely.

But despite all of that, Myrphe’s backstory was a lot. And sadly, it wasn’t even all a lie. Well, she never existed, but the two sisters from the story did. Their mother died at birth and they tried to make her proud. Only to die when the calamity struck.

The calamity itself hadn’t been anything too dangerous. But at the same time, it was awful. It was a massive swarm of C and B-rank insect monsters that came from a nearby dungeon. Its entrance had been buried in the ground, so it wasn’t discovered. Not until the rogue dungeon overpopulated itself and the monsters dug a way to the surface in search of food.

And sadly, a small town of mostly insect-folk had been the closest one.

However, everything related to Myrphe was just something I came up with. As for how she is a spider, well an Arachne. I’m sure she’ll explain it.

After Hiro was ready to continue, the two stood at the opposite ends of the dueling arena. For those wondering, the dueling arena was largely based on the anime arenas from the og Yugioh era. Like the one Yugi and Kaiba dueled on in episode 1.

The duelists could either pick to use a duel disk or the standard table. Hiro was using a duel disk but Myrphe used the table.

That is because I made Myrphe left-handed. For no real reason, I just felt like it. And I sadly hadn’t made any left-handed duel disks. You know, ones that you hold on your right wrist so that you can draw cards with your left. I need to design a few after the tournament.

Luckily flipping over the table’s layout so that Myrphe’s deck was on the left side instead of the right was no problem.

Anyway, let's get to the duel. Since Hiro lost the first one, he got to pick which of them went first.

“I’ll let you go first.” Hiro said. “I want to hear more about you and I don’t think you can kill me on the first turn.”

“... maybe I can if no one stops me. But please, if I try to kill someone again, stop me.” Myrphe said. “I'll start by special summoning the Lonely Rainbow Butterfly. I can special summon this monster since I control no monsters.” Myrphe began her turn.

Lonely Rainbow Butterfly

Level 7

2400/1600

If you control no monsters, you can Special summon this card from your hand.

Once per turn, target 1 other "Rainbow" monster you control, then either increase or decrease the level of both the targeted monster and this card by 3. You can increase the level of one while decreasing the level of the other.

“So there I was, all alone after being banished. I was honestly lucky. They could have executed me for what I did. Luckily my sisters survived, so I was allowed to just leave, with a promise to never come back.” Myrphe began. “I was so angry back then. But not at them. Not any more. I was angry at myself. Angry that I’d been so jealous of my sisters. And that anger … it allowed something to take hold deep in my heart.”

“I normal summon Rainbow Baby Moth.” Myrphe played her next card. “It wasn’t a moth or a larva that took a hold of me. But she will have to play the part. It was a …”

“A spider.” Hiro guessed.

“Yes. At least I believe so. Though I’m still not quite sure what it really was.” Myrphe said, but she lied. Of course she knew, as I knew. But for story reasons, she didn’t know.

“I do. And I’ll tell you. In a bit. Why don’t you continue your story first, Myrphe.” I offered.

“You do?” Myrphe perked up. “Do you … can you fix it?” She asked.

“Yes and no. How you look cannot be fixed. But the other thing, yes. I've asked someone to work on it.” I told her. “But please, your story. Everyone is listening.”

“I … alright.” Myrphe said before she took a deep breath and continued. “The spider, it leeched my strength. But not just my strength. Everything about me. Especially feeding on my feelings of jealousy and anger. My envy and my wrath.

“I activate the effect of Lonely Rainbow Butterfly. I can decrease its level by 3 while increasing the level of Rainbow Baby Moth by 3. Like my stand in Baby Moth, the spider grew as I became weak. Until I could no longer resist. The spider cocooned us both and turned us into something I wasn’t. I overlay my two level 4 monsters to Xyz summon.

"A small wrong can force a soul down a dark path. Along that path, a Spider might latch onto your heart and drag you deeper in. Will you fight the Sin or let it grow, the choice is yours.

"Appear, Number 70: Malevolent Sin.”

“I was reborn as a spider with the upper body of a woman. An arachne. Except that I wasn’t one. Because since that day … I’ve been nothing more than a monster.” Myrphe said. “I was nothing more than a small part of that spider monster. Nothing more than what the Lonely Rainbow Butterfly is now reduced to. A small unit of a monster.”

With that, Myrphe looked at me in the hopes that I’d fill in some parts of her story.

I sighed before I took a deep breath in.

“What infected her is an ancient monster, older than the demon lord. They originate from the very first arachne this world has ever seen. Though back then she wasn’t called an arachne. But instead a Drider. And she was a monster. And she gave birth to more monsters.” I explained, and as I did, I made a nice visual aid to help those watching. Both here in the Factory and those watching the live stream.

“They were tiny spiders. So small that you couldn’t see them. They would latch onto a person, feeding off of their negative emotions. They’d gain strength and eventually they’d completely take over, twisting the person into another drider.

“That was until she was stopped by a greater force. She and her children were accepted to be a part of the System. But there was something left unaccounted. To this day, Arachne sometimes gives birth to these tiny spiders. Not on purpose. One is simply sometimes born when an Arachne lays unfertilized eggs. It is a curse left on their race, similar to the blood curse that ails the Dhampir.

Normally the System and the Goddess protects us from it. But sometimes, those who are tainted by extreme grief cannot resist it. And one took a hold of Myrphe at her most vulnerable.”

“... then Myrphe.” Hiro said.

“I don’t call myself a monster for nothing. I am one.” She confirmed.

“She really is. She has a monster core and everything, and she doesn't have a System status.” I added. “That is why I spotted her so easily. She was the first monster to ever enter the Factory. Well, not quite. Nir has been here, as have a few others. But she was the first who did so using Factory VR. All of my security measures instantly flagged her. But she didn’t do anything bad here.”

“So I tracked her down. I had to have some of her blood, so I had Lua draw some. I sent it to the Goddess and requested that Myrphe be accepted back into the System. She should get back what she lost because of that tiny leech.” I explained. “She, like her great ancestor, will soon be accepted by the System.”

This was a simple lie I came up with. It would make the Goddess seem more caring, despite ‘abandoning’ Myrphe all those years ago. She just needed to know of the problem, by me telling her, and she would then accept her children back into her loving arms.

Basically, I wanted the world to think that sins would be forgiven. And I don’t mind being the one people confess their sins to.

“... what?” Myrphe asked, my soul copy still playing her part perfectly. Because at the end of the day, this was a show to build up faith in the Goddess, and myself, so that the counties wouldn't fall into chaos when the States enacted their plan. “... I will? I will be … a person again.”

“Yes, you will.” I confirmed. And as I said that, I felt something snap between myself and Myrphe. The soul connection we had was lost, and instead I was facing down a System screen.

Individual Myrphe has detached from her soul host Ultimate Holder Ami Brian Wood.

New soul has been created for individual Myrphe. Memories from Ultimate Holder Ami Brian Wood are now being erased. New memories based on the story of Ultimate Holder Ami Brian Wood and individual Myrphe have been created.

Minor Timeline correction in progress to add individual Myrphe to the timeline. Rollback not deemed necessary to do so. Only the master of the Timeline Staff can see this message.

… Holy shit! I just… We just made a new person! Myrphe is no longer just my soul copy. She is … her own thing! She is Myrphe.

I quickly appraised her to confirm, and she had most definitely become her own person with her own System status.

Before I could even notice, Myrphe had collapsed to the floor, tears freely flowing from her eight eyes. I wasn’t sure if she was being overwhelmed by all of her false memories, or if it was something else, but I let her be. While I did, I explored my own memories. Because I could remember two different timelines. The one we lived, where Myrphe was my soul copy. And the one the world believes to be true, one where Myrphe’s backstory was the truth.

And in theory, I’m the only one who remembers the true timeline.

Now let me be honest. This wasn’t my intention. I just wanted to play Yugioh. And maybe build up some good faith with between the people and the Goddess.

But somehow, the System decided to make Myrphe into an individual of her own. And honestly, I don’t care. She was always meant to be a disposable copy. But I did feel like that might be difficult. People on HomeBase who don’t know she is a copy have made a connection with her, so I began to wonder if I’d need to use the Numeron Code’s Soul Manipulation to separate her soul from me and make her into an actual person. I think the Code can do that, but I’d need to confirm with the Numeron Dragon first. But now I don’t have to.

I wasn’t sure if Myrphe was good to continue the duel, but sadly I couldn’t wait forever. But I also wanted to give her the support she needed, so I called Unika, who was outside of the Factory, to get Sharon and have her enter the Factory. Sharon and Myrphe have a … sort of sisterly bond, so maybe Sharon can calm her down. Give her some strength.

If needed, I’ll pause the match and it will either be redone at a later date, paused until a later date, or I will just declare Myrphe the winner as she won the first duel. Unless Myrphe wants to quit, in which case Hiro would win by forfeit.

But after Sharon arrived and calmed down the crying Myrphe, Myrphe gathered herself and stood back up. Sharon tried to stay by her side, but gave her a sign to move back a few steps, just to avoid any cheating accusations. She'd still be right there to help Myrphe if this would be too much for her, but a duel is still a duel and I don't allow cheating. ... unless I'm the one cheating. But Myrphe is no longer me, so she cannot cheat.

“Are you good to continue?” I asked Myrphe, but I also turned to face Hiro and asked him that.

Hiro simply nodded, but I saw it in him that he was thinking of surrendering. But he got a spark of determination and was ready to continue.

Sadly, he’d never get a chance. Because Myrphe was now her own person, and she didn’t hold back. Not like I did when I was the one in control. Because unlike me, who just wanted to enjoy some fun duels, Myrphe wanted to win.

“I activate Rank-Up-Magic Quick Chaos! Come forth, Chaos Number 70: Deadly Sin.”

“I’m using Deadly Sin’s effect. I can use it as a material to summon a rank 10 Insect-type Xyz monster. So appear, Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula. But I’m not done yet. Because I can use Ravenous Tarantula as a material for another Xyz summon. So now, Number 84: Pain Gainer appears. And like the Tarantula before it, Pain Gainer can also be used as a material. So I use it to Xyz summon Number 77: The Seven Sins.”

As the massive spider appeared behind Myrphe, I saw Hiro visibly gulp. Can’t blame him too much. Seven Sins isn’t the easiest to take down, and Myrphe just summoned it with 6 materials.

But sadly for Hiro, she wasn’t done. I know what she has in her hand, so I also know this won't end well. For Hiro.

“I play Rank-Up-Magic Numeron Force. With it, I’m upgrading my Number 77 into its chaos number.” She said. “For every Sin, there is a Virtue. Humility, Charity, Chastity, Gratitude, Temperance, Patience, and Diligence. One can never embody each of them, but one creature still tries.

With the ideal virtues guiding you, show me the path to victory! Chaos Number 77: Seven Virtues!”

Myrphe took a quick look at her spider, before she turned back to face Hiro. And Hiro, before even being able to read the short story that is Seven Virtues’ effect, had to live with the fact that it was on the board and he was about to lose.

“I activate Seven Virtues’ effect.” Myrphe declared. “I banish Rank-Up-Magic Quick Chaos from my graveyard and Chaos Numbers 35 is added to my Virtues as an overlay unit.”

“I’ll then use the spell Chaotic Overlay Material. Since I control a Number C monster, I can add a Number C monster from my extra deck to be a material to it. I’ll add Chaos Number 84 to Virtues.”

Hiro was left in shock and awe, looking at the fading red and gold spider as Myrphe took a step back from the dueling board, almost collapsing to the arms of Sharon who was waiting.

I then began a slow clap, and as I let the sounds of the Factory audience reach us, they quickly joined in.

I’m so proud of her. Myrphe. Not only did you separate yourself from me, but you then went on to just win the duel with Seven Virtues.

You really are amazing.
