Chapter 48: Heartbreak
Hikaru's eyes widened at Daichi's sudden question.
Did he really just ask that out of nowhere?
He glanced at Daichi, who was still gazing out at the horizon, arms crossed. The crashing waves filled the silence, but it was clear he was waiting for an answer.
I... seriously didn't expect that.
Hikaru cleared his throat and finally spoke.
"Yeah... Her name is Mei Tomita. She's my sister Hikari's best friend."
Daichi stayed quiet, still watching the distant sea as waves slammed rhythmically against the golden sands of Tottori.
"How did you two meet," he asked, "if you don't mind me asking?"
Hikaru smiled, lost in the memory.
"It was after their volleyball training, about four years ago when I was 16 years old. I was at their training centre – just watching. I guess I got curious about Hikari's teammates."
Daichi turned slightly, a small smirk tugging at his lips.
