Beauty in the beast world

Chapter 354: The letter

"Your Highness, this is important!" An unfamiliar voice of a man resonated inside the castle, "Please, let me meet Queen Lyra"

Lucas looked at Heath like he was an unwanted vermin under his foot, "Get out of here before I drag you out myself. I’m telling you, the second option will do you no good." Seeing Elena’s mate, the first thing after entering the castle, made his mood plummet. Anything that had to do with that vile witch disgusted him.

Heath struggled against the guards holding him back, and he faced the Wolf prince who would sooner throw him to the strays than hear him out. It was just his luck, that the one he met as soon as he came here was Lucas.

"I don’t harbor any ulterior motives, Your Highness. I wish to give this letter to her majesty. It is very important" Heath’s words seemed to fall deaf on Lucas’ ears.

"An important letter?" The latter deadpanned, "And who is it from?"

Heath fell silent as soon as he heard Lucas’ question. It was a simple one but he felt so hard to answer it. He knew that the moment he revealed that the letter was from Elena, Prince Lucas would throw him out and burn the letter before it could reach Queen Lyra. But not saying the truth would also do him no good at this moment.

Heath also had a plan of his own that would work by riling up Prince Lucas.

Against his own well-being, Heath said, "The letter is from Elena"

As expected, as soon as he replied, Lucas snatched him away from the guards before throwing him to the ground, "What is that witch planning now!?" His loud voice rang along the walls gaining everybody’s attention. Lyra’s other mates also heard the loud commotion and gathered near the scene.

Likewise, after her conversation with Blake, she went out for a stroll only to hear Lucas’ furious voice directed at someone.

"What is happening?" Lyra asked in confusion when she saw her mates.

But the one to reply to her was not her mates but Heath, "Your majesty!" His shout was louder than Lucas’. Before the latter could react, Heath slipped away from him as he approached Lyra. He almost did until he was stopped by Killian.

Heath retreated in submission before someone more powerful than him. All he wanted to do was flee from this place but the promise he had made to his mate mattered more to him than his own life.

"Your majesty, Elena asked me to deliver this letter to you. Please accept it," He hurriedly said, making Lyra frown.

"You are Elena’s mate?"

"Yes, your majesty"

Lyra looked at him skeptically, "And she has sent me a letter?" That woman? The woman who loathed her very existence. Elena’s one-sided feelings towards Lucas were nothing new. But to shift her focus from Lucas to Lyra? Why was she suddenly doing this?

"Why?" That was her next question. What made Elena send a letter here? That too through her mate’s hand?

"Your..." Before Heath could answer, Lucas cut him off.

"Don’t worry yourself about this, Ly. Whatever it is, it will be nothing but a bunch of nonsense" Lucas felt anger boil inside him. That Elena seemed hell-bent on spoiling his life. That vile witch can’t be happy so she has to make everyone else miserable. A letter addressed to his Ly by that witch? It will be nothing but some hateful words.

Heath faltered as he looked back and forth between Lucas and Lyra, "Your majesty, it is not like that..."

"Enough!" Lucas stepped towards him and started to drag him away to the exit, "You are as obnoxious as your mate, I ought to..."

"My mate is in danger!" Heath said as he shook off Lucas’s hold. His voice was filled with desperation and anger. He glanced back at Lyra as he added, "And she said that only you can save her from it. Please, Your majesty. Please read this letter once"

Although he didn’t know about the complete picture regarding his mate’s terror, he knew that she was telling the truth. The way she panicked, looked full of fear, and wrote the letter looked real. There was none of her usual arrogance or obsession with Lucas when she spoke. But unbridled fear? That was very much present in her voice and expression.

"I’ll keep this here and leave," Heath said, settling the now wrinkled parchment on the floor before backing away. "It will be your decision whether to read it or not." It hurt him that this was all he could do for his mate. However, further push from him will only anger Prince Lucas more.

With those final words, Heath left the tribe, passing the guards, while Lyra looked at the letter.

She walked towards it and bent down to pick it up.

"Ly...."

"He put his life on line coming here, Lucas" Lyra said as she unfurled the paper, "Let me at least read it"

Lyra anticipated a long paragraph full of insults directed at her before she even opened it regardless of what she said to Lucas. She had zero faith in Elena. But the content inside was the opposite of everything she had thought. In fact, there was only one sentence written inside it.

’Kalena is occupying my body. Help me’

She read it over and over again just to make sure. Was she hoping for the content to change? She didn’t know. Instead of shock or anger, she felt numb.

"What is it?" Blake asked as he took in her serious expression. Instead of answering him, his mate handed the letter to him.

His furrowed brows relaxed but darkness marred his face as he read Elena’s message.

Kalena was occupying the Black Wolf Princess. The same Kalena who was responsible for his daughter, Vanadey’s death. The woman was responsible for all the bad things that had happened to their family till now.

After he finished reading it, Killian took it from him followed by Victor and Demir. They didn’t look happy with what they saw.

Lucas was the last to read but the first to react, "We have to do something"

A silent agreement was what he received in return. They indeed had to do something.
