Chapter 278: Disbelief
King Sheru led the tiger tribe located outside the Beast City. Tigers by nature were solitary beings and hence liked life far from the city’s commotion. Most of the tiger beastmen roamed alone with no interest in making any companions. However, this was not ideal for the females. With the risk of strays hovering all across the beast world, it was deemed impossible for the former to lead an alone life.
First, it started with the mated tiger beastmen. The former chose to settle down in a place as soon as they got a mate. Then the bachelor beastmen followed likewise to protect their precious females who were the only ones that could continue their progeny. And the one who put forth this idea of building a tribe for their own kind was none other than King Sheru. He convinced his tribesmen to help him create a tribe where they would work together against a common enemy. In the beast world, strays were not the only threat they had. Many died due to hunger in the cold season and turned into food for another strong and starving beast. So having a tribe was a must for them and Sheru made it possible.
And when he got it done, Sheru won the right to rule by combating the strongest beasts in his tribe. Like this, a fearsome tiger tribe was born. They were a force to be reckoned with even when they stayed away from the city. It was as though they didn’t need others’ help when they were enough to defend themselves.
Lucas had great respect for his brother-in-law. He admired how the latter built an entire tribe with dust. It must have been not that easy to do. Then again, it was also like not everyone can do that.
"How have you been, your majesty?"
King Sheru smiled, "I’m all well, prince. How about you?"
And before Lucas could answer, his sister beat him to it, "I’m sure brother is doing well, Darling. He has a mate now" Mona was shocked when their mother told her about Lucas getting a mate. How could she remain calm knowing how her brother was? Lucas was notorious for rejecting and keeping his distance from females. This only increased with Elena’s persistence in pestering him. Her brother had been fed up with always having to put up a facade in front of Elena to not offend her father the late Black Wolf king.
Mona more than anyone else knew her brother’s struggle in getting away from Elena and then finally giving up when she refused to take a no for an answer. Then he got angry at their mother and left the tribe when she suggested he mate with Elena. Mona could understand both of them in this regard. Lucas was disappointed due to their mother’s betrayal and their mother was looking out for his future. With him continuously rejecting a female, no other female would want him as her mate. As for Elena’s eccentric behaviors, none cared about it because most of the females acted like her. Every whim of theirs would get fulfilled no matter how ridiculous it was.
So, the one to suffer here would have always been Lucas. Mona was just glad that her brother managed to find a mate even amidst all of these. However, she was not yet convinced because the following thoughts refused to leave her mind as soon as she heard about Luke getting a mate. ’Did she force him to mate with her?’ or Did he force himself to mate with her to escape from Elena?’ Both of these were possibilities so Mona wanted to confirm with her own eyes of her brother’s current predicament and asked, "Luke I want to meet your mate"
Lucas noticed the sudden shift in her sister’s demeanor and frowned. He could almost see where her thoughts were running off to, "It’s nothing like what you are thinking of Mona"
