Chapter 1008 - 1005: Voice
The world thundered the moment Corey poured his death qi into the world tree, and the danger to both Corey and Pamela’s life increased.
The world tree trembled violently, and its roots shot out of the ground and began thrashing around violently, destroying the ground and causing the expressions of Anton, the priest, and the mage to drastically change.
The shield Anton created using the Book of Death rippled violently as the roots of the world tree slammed into it numerous times, and for a moment, Anton and the others thought that the shield would break. But it did not.
Despite the powerful attacks of the world tree’s roots, it stood firm, and the trio heaved heavy sighs of relief.
Meanwhile, both Corey and Pamela were gravely injured.
Pamela was entirely focused on deflecting the lightning bolts that fell like the wrath of a god on them.
And shockingly, it looked like she was getting stronger the more she did this. However, cracks began to appear on her body, and through his Eyes of Omniscience, he knew that this cracks were far more dangerous cuts and broken bones.
She was over exerting herself way too much, and her body was literally getting destroyed due to the excess immortal energies she was being exposed to.
Although Corey saw this, his mind and expression remained calm as he was utterly and completely focused on the battle that was occuring in the world tree itself.
He had thought he would only have to battle the death qi of Anton, but he did not account for the fact that the world tree would also attempt to destroy his death qi.
’I neglected the fact that world tree would definitely have its defenses against the death qi. Now those defenses are making a lot more difficult for me to destroy Anton’s death qi.’
His mind flashed with several simulations and calculations at an unfathomable speed, and then he clicked his tongue and poured vast amount of tribulation lightning into the world tree.
The world tree shook the more, and he could feel it actively resisting his tribulation lightning and his death qi.
In a fit of frustration, annoyance, and anger, he activated Painful Echo
as a way to vent out his anger. Red ominous lines began spreading out from his hands to the world tree, and this red lines emitted so much pain to the world that the world tree began shaking.
"Stop making things more difficult. I’m fucking trying to help you." He growled, and the moment he said those words, he heard the entire world scream.
It was a scream that could not be defined. It was like the scream of every living thing in a world screaming in pain at the same time.
It was a scream that shook Corey, Pamela, Anton, and every other person present.
Even the battle that was occurring in the shell world was halted because of this scream.
Corey nearly took a step back, but he forced himself not to. He could not afford to stop his actions on the world tree.
Any delay or interruption on his part would make all his efforts to be put to waste, and he wanted none of that.
He gritted his teeth, and he pushed in more of his death qi, tribulation lightning, and also Painful Echo.
He could feel his lifespan and body deteriorating at a rapid pace because of the Crown of the Lifeless Sovereign, but he didn’t stop.
He couldn’t stop.

"Stop!"
"Huh?"
Corey blinked, and he was taken out of his focused state. He looked around, wondering if he was hearing things, but when he did not see the source of the voice he heard, he frowned.
’I thought I heard the sound of a woman.’ Corey narrowed his eyes with a baffled expression.
"I said stop!"
"Hmm?" Corey looked at the world tree, and he narrowed his eyes in suspicion.
"Did you- just talk to me?" He asked carefully.
"Yes. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it! It hurts!"
Corey frowned, and then he stopped using Painful Echo on the world tree.
"Is that better?" He asked, but even after five seconds passed, he received no answer.
He frowned deeply. "Since you can talk, listen to me. We’re both here to help you, but you’re making our job a lot more difficult. First of all, stop your lightning attacks on us. My friend is about to die."
Another five seconds passed, but he received no answer, and a cold light flashed in his eyes.
He activated Painful Echo, and the voice came back.
"STOP!"
"I told you to do something, and since you’re not cooperating, I’ll make sure I make you suffer as much as possible."
Corey increased the output of Painful Echo, and the screaming of the world tree continued.
"Stop! Stop! Stop!"
The world tree screamed, but Corey’s eyes remained cold and indifferent. He did not stop but continued increasing the output of Painful Echo while also increasing his proficiency with the skill.
"Please stop. Just stop. I’ll listen to you. I’ll listen to you."
Corey reduced the output of Painful Echo to a certain point, but his gaze remained cold.
"Heal her."
"Okay."
A silver leaf from the crown of the world tree fell on top of Pamela’s head, and silver vines began covering her entire body until no part of her body could be seen.
Corey looked at her with his Eyes of Omniscience, and then he nodded his head when he saw that she was being healed at a rapid pace.
’In a minute or two, she would be fully healed.’
Corey heaved a sigh of relief, and then he completely deactivated Painful Echo.
"Now, stop fighting me and allow me to help you. That’s why I’m here."
"How can I trust you? As you can see, a member of the royal family has caused me so much harm."
"The Queen sent me to you, and it should be obvious to you that we’re not on the same side as those guys."
