William let go of Peggy's mouth, pulling back from the kiss, both of them panting for air. A sly grin spread across his face as he teased, "Was that enough to scare you? Or should I demonstrate an even greater level of my passion? Hahaha." His laughter rang out confidently as he pushed himself upright, bracing his hands on the ground. Then, offering Peggy his hand, he added, "Need me to pull you up?"
Peggy froze for a moment before swatting his hand away, her voice sharp with indignation. "You bastard."
William's grin didn't waver. "You're no disappointment, Peggy. Strong will, strong spirit. Don't you think so?"
"Just drop dead," she snapped, standing and, in a burst of frustration, aiming a swift kick at him.
A sharp yelp escaped her as pain shot through her foot, the impact feeling as though she had struck solid steel. Grimacing, she clutched her foot, glaring daggers at him.
"See?" William said with a chuckle. "You just had to go and hurt yourself. Were you trying to be clever? Next time, think it through."
Peggy's glare intensified as she unleashed a tirade of colorful curses, her voice brimming with venom.
William's smirk widened. "Looks like I'll need to shut that mouth of yours again."
At that, Peggy's hands flew to her mouth, and she stumbled back a step, her voice muffled by her palms. "Don't you dare come near me, or I'll fight you for real!"
"Relax," William said, spreading his hands in mock surrender. "I was just teasing. I'm not going to do anything to you." He bent down and picked up a battered straw hat from the ground, brushing off the dust before placing it on her head. "Here. Put this on."
