"Amelia!" Aiden exclaimed, rushing towards the door to pry it open, hoping that Amelia’s presence was a figment of his imagination.
Why hadn’t he checked if the door was properly closed? Why did Emmeline come to find him?!
All the questions were useless. Aiden only knew he had to resolve this or risk all his plans going up in smoke.
He tried to reach out to Amelia, but she twisted away from his hands like his touch was poison. Her eyes that once used to look at him with tolerant fondness and affection were now replaced with jagged shards of hurt, their sharp edges cutting his bravado into pieces.
"Please let me explain―"
"What is there to explain?" Amelia demanded shakily, her face was paler than the moon since all her blood had left her body. "I heard it all with my own two ears!"
Aiden, who she trusted with her secrets, who she thought of as a friend, almost a family member, was single-handedly responsible for the mess that was keeping her up at night. Her lack of proper rest... Her anxiety of the future...
All this time, he was sitting on the truth, but he never opened his mouth to let Amelia know about it!
Suddenly, she wished her bodyguard was here. Sean was currently waiting downstairs for her to escort her home when she was done with her work. She had foolishly thought there wasn’t going to be a need for Sean’s services while she was at the office since Aiden was only an office away and could protect her well enough.
