Chapter 258: Moving in
Margaret sat at the edge of her bed, her heart pounding in her chest. The conversation with James still echoed in her mind, his threats and anger lingering like a dark cloud. She knew she had to act quickly.
She glanced at the clock. James would be preoccupied for at least a few more hours, dealing with the fallout from the company’s troubles. This was her window of opportunity. She took a deep breath and opened her laptop, her fingers trembling slightly as she typed in the password.
Fredrick had helped her set up the offshore account days ago, anticipating that things might come to this. Now, it was time to put their plan into action. She navigated to James’s personal banking site, her heart pounding in her chest as she entered the necessary details.
Margaret knew the accounts well. Over the years, she had helped manage their finances, always ensuring that they had what they needed. Now, she was using that knowledge to siphon funds discreetly. She transferred small amounts at a time, making sure not to trigger any alarms. It was a painstaking process, but she couldn’t afford to make a mistake.
As the minutes ticked by, she felt a mix of fear and exhilaration. Each successful transfer brought her closer to securing her and Lily’s future. She glanced nervously at the door, half-expecting James to burst in at any moment. But the house remained silent, the only sound the clicking of her keyboard.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Margaret completed the last transfer. She had managed to move a substantial sum into the offshore account, enough to support her and Lily for a long time if needed. She sat back, letting out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding.
Just then, her phone buzzed. It was a message from Fredrick: "Is everything okay?"
She quickly typed back, "Yes. It’s done."
Fredrick’s reply was immediate. "Good. Now get out of there. I’ll be waiting for you."
