The Twisted Obsession

Chapter 45: Protect her

Tony entered Remo’s office, his demeanor tense with anticipation. Remo sat behind his imposing desk, his expression unreadable as he gestured for Tony to begin. He had come to his casino after spending some time with Abby during the day to sign some documents before they left the city.

"Boss, I’ve got some updates on the Harrison situation," Tony began, his voice steady despite the weight of the information he carried. "They’ve been scouring the city for Abby, your wife, and we’ve been successful in covering her tracks so far."

Remo’s jaw tightened at the mention of Abby, his wife, a flicker of concern crossing his features before being replaced by a steely resolve. He had been tirelessly working to protect her, to shield her from the clutches of her abusive family, and he would stop at nothing to ensure her safety.

Tony continued, his voice low and measured as he relayed the findings about Abby’s family, the Harrisons. "They’ve been abusing her, boss. Physically, emotionally... It’s a nightmare. And that’s not all. They’re drowning in gambling debt, clinging to Abby as their last hope to recover what’s left of their fortune."

Remo’s fists clenched at his sides, his knuckles turning white with suppressed rage. The thought of Abby suffering at the hands of her own family ignited a fire within him, a primal urge to seek justice for the woman he has come to care about.

He didn’t want to admit it but he has grown to care deeply for his wife these past few days.

The image of Abby, innocent and vulnerable, suffering at the hands of her own family, ignited a fierce sense of protectiveness in him, a primal instinct to shield her from harm.

His heart, hardened by years of betrayal and loss, had been an impenetrable fortress until she came along. His wife, shy and unassuming, had wormed her way past his defenses, thawing the icy barriers around his heart with her quiet strength and unwavering kindness.

He wasn’t supposed to feel anything for her, not in this world of deception and deceit. Their marriage was a facade, a charade meant to deceive her family for her inheritance but despite his best efforts to remain detached, he found himself caring for her in ways he never thought possible.

The memory of Bella, his beloved lost to him forever, lingered like a ghost in the recesses of his mind. He had thought that he would never feel again, that the numbness that enveloped him would be his constant companion until the end of his days. And then she had come into his life, a beacon of light in the darkness, stirring emotions long thought dormant.

He couldn’t deny the warmth that bloomed within him whenever he was near her, the way her presence filled the emptiness in his soul with a flicker of hope. But with that hope came fear, the fear of losing her, of exposing her to the dangers that lurked in their world.
