Chapter 44: The Harrisons
Mr. Harrison stormed through the opulent halls of his mansion, his face contorted with rage. Behind him trailed his wife, Mrs. Harrison, wringing her hands in distress, and their daughter, Lily, her eyes wide with anxiety. The atmosphere crackled with tension as they waited for good news about Abby, the missing niece whose absence threatened to unravel their carefully woven plans.
"Where is she?!" Mr. Harrison bellowed, his voice reverberating off the marble walls. "I want every inch of this country searched, every corner turned inside out until we find her!"
His team of men, a cluster of intimidated faces, stood frozen in the grand foyer, quaking under the weight of his fury. They exchanged nervous glances, knowing the severity of the situation. Failure was not an option, not when so much was at stake.
Mrs. Harrison approached her husband, her voice trembling as she attempted to placate him. "Darling, please, we must find Abby. She’s the key to everything." The words were laced with desperation, but beneath the surface simmered a cauldron of resentment and hate that had festered for years.
They had been planning and plotting for years, building their empire on a foundation of lies and deceit. But for Mrs. Harrison, the bitterness ran deeper, fueled by the stark contrast between her own struggles and the seemingly effortless success of her younger sister, who had married a powerful man like Charles Falcone.
The shame of begging her sister for help, of having to swallow her pride and kneel before her husband’s family, had bred a toxic cocktail of greed and jealousy that poisoned Mrs. Harrison’s every thought and action. Even in death, her sister’s memory haunted her, a constant reminder of her own inadequacy.
And then there was Abby, the spitting image of her late sister, a living, breathing manifestation of everything Mrs. Harrison had never been and could never be. Every time she laid eyes on the girl, the flames of her hatred burned brighter, consuming her from the inside out.
Her sister had always been the favorite, the golden child, showered with love and adoration while Mrs. Harrison languished in her shadow, unnoticed and unloved. Why couldn’t it have been her? Why couldn’t she have been the one to capture their parents’ hearts, to win their affection and approval?
Abby was more than just a pawn in their twisted game; she was the embodiment of everything Mrs. Harrison had ever wanted and could never have. And until she was found, until she was brought to heel and made to pay for the sins of her bloodline, Mrs. Harrison’s hatred would know no bounds.
