Chapter 319: Back To Square One
"...!!!"
Samantha’s eyes snapped wide open, displaying her urgency, and a desperate gasp followed as she involuntarily sat up on the big bed. She coughed uncontrollably, feeling a lump settle uncomfortably in her throat, and as she tried to regain her regular breathing, it felt as if she had been holding her breath all through her unconscious state.
Her eyes diverted to the cup of water that was set on the table beside her bed, whilst she hurriedly reached for the cup of water, her thirst increasing merely from the sight of it. When she extended her hand forward, the clanking sounds of chains followed, and that made her stop, whilst she glanced at her right hand to see that her wrist had been chained to the bed stand.
Samantha’s racing heart was yet to calm, she was still immensely petrified– her ears rang, her head hurt, and the sight of her chained hands ignited it. She wriggled her wrist in an attempt to free it from the chains, but they wouldn’t budge.
"What is–" Her emerald-green eyes instinctively scanned the surroundings she unknowingly found herself in. It was a neat and eerily spacious room, it looked similar to the room she had woken up to in Carmela’s fortress, and that immediately reminded her of her situation before she ended up here. The last thing she had seen before losing consciousness was Marius’s arm being ripped off, and the voice she heard after, her mind couldn’t place them together but she knew there was no other person whose voice would have such an effect on her if it wasn’t Ivan’s.
Asides this, she couldn’t really remember what happened after that.
"Argh!" Her hands immediately found their way to her head when the painful ringing ensued. She squeezed her eyes shut, biting at her lower lip to suppress the pain, and it took some minutes before they finally stopped, and she could hear properly again. She reached for the water in the cup and immediately emptied it, whilst quenching her taste.
She looked around, wondering if she had company, or if Ivan was here, but aside from her, there was no one in the chamber. She continued to try her possible best to free her wrist, but her attempts always ended up futile.
"It had to be Ivan, I heard his voice and... those chains, he’s the only one I know who uses them! I wasn’t hallucinating... it has to be Ivan but... but where is he?" Samantha’s eyes reflected her own desperation to prove she hadn’t imagined his presence at all, but how can she find him if she chained to this stupid bed!
In her moment of struggle, the least person she expected to step inside the room was Marius. The sight of him made her freeze in what she was doing, and there was a flicker of fear in her eyes when she recalled the pain he put her through.
She flinched back when he approached her bedside, and she crawled back, keeping her distance despite knowing he could close their proximity at his own will. His obsidian-black eyes watched her cynically, and she could sense the acrimony that lingered within. She detested his presence, the fear she presently felt wasn’t hundred percent coming from her, and for her past self to keep this hatred and fear burning for a man like him till this day, she wondered how badly he must have maltreated her past self.
"Where... where is Ivan?" She asked, her voice trembling despite her attempt to hide the anxiousness that seeped into her bone. Marius tilted his head at the woman who grew more wary of him by the second, and her audacity to still question him about another man made him want to grab her throat. Before he could even try, her pleading voice rang out as she folded herself like a ball.
