Chapter 318: Attack From Behind
The vines she had erupted from the ground consolidated into a formidable mass, whilst they looked thicker, more pudgier than their original form. They towered before Ivan who mindfully watched them grow until they were the same height with the walls behind it, and the vampire’s eyes widened in apprehension. He wasn’t spared enough time to place the dots into place and was immediately interrupted by the verdant torrent of the vines, lashing forward with a speed that sent the ground beneath them crumbling apart.
Samantha unleashed her vines at Ivan, her goal centered on grabbing a firm hold of him, but her vines were no match for Ivan’s honed skills. His instincts naturally kicked in, and with a supernatural grace, he avoided the onslaught of vines. His movements were a mesmerizing display of acrobatics, whilst he flipped and weaved through the air, escaping the vines whenever they closed in. The sight had Marius gritting his teeth in sheer displeasure, and he wondered how much devotion the vampire had placed in his training to be this competent!
Now that he actually considers thinking about it, how did he find them?
Using the time he had to heal, he glanced at Samantha who controlled those monstrous vines. A progressing smile adorned his lips at her relentless attacks on Ivan, and he had assumed that his plans to get her under his control hadn’t been successful. With the sudden interruption of the vampire King who was now in his territory, his plan to get into her head were not fully completed, he was unable to recite the full chants that would grant him access to her mind and soul, so basically, he has to do something before she snaps out of the little effect his incomplete chants had caused.
"What are you doing?" Ivan’s eyes snapped in her direction, and she paused in her attacks. Was he happy to see her standing on her feet? He would have been, but the woman staring at him presently wasn’t his Samantha. His little lamb’s eyes were never the shades of an abyss, and his little lamb was too much of a sentimental person to not have a trace of emotion flickering in her eyes– it was like staring into a void, and that made his own heart uncomfortable. His Samantha would never lay attacks on him, so why...?
Ivan’s perplexed gaze flickered to Marius who came to stand beside Samantha, and he placed a hand on her shoulder, as if conveying the message that she should lower her guard. To Ivan’s disbelief, she readily complied to Marius’s orders, but her vines were still fixed on him, in case he dared to make a move on them. He shook his head as a sign of mental rejection, refusing to believe the sight before him, and his eyes took on a predatory slit as they moved to Marius who had a slight smile on his lips. Ivan knew the amount of damage his blows had caused Marius, but staring at the Demon now, his wounds had healed, and he wouldn’t have believed he was the same man he brutally bruised if it wasn’t for the lingering stain and smell of his blood.
"What did you fucking do to her?" Ivan spoke through clenched teeth, his hands balling as the anger in him continuously grew. The silence in the alleyway was threatening, like the gathering of an incoming storm cloud, and Marius derived joy in seeing the confusion flash before the vampire’s eyes.
"This isn’t your Samantha, your Samantha is gone." Marius gladly disclosed the news to the vampire. "Did you know that your wife used to be my wife before she got reborn? How silly of you vampires to think that an Orb could create life, don’t you think? With a man whose reputation as the vampire King is on the line, have you no shame? Coming into my territory and claiming someone what isn’t yours to keep? Not a problem, I’ll certainly see to it that you don’t leave alive."
A dagger materialized in Marius’s grip, and he threateningly placed it against Samantha’s throat, forcing the vampire to flinch at the sight. Marius’s intrigued eyes moved to study Samantha’s face, and there was not a single reaction from her- a flinch, an expression, the increase in heartbeat or pulse.... nothing. She looked like a puppet, the type whose main priority was to listen to the orders of its Master.
