Bride To His Darkness

Chapter 274: A Silent Deal With The Devil

Lucy managed a faint smile at her friend’s emotional display, and she was touched by her tears.

As much as she told Samantha about her life in the past, she hadn’t detailed it enough for her to understand what she truly meant by the things she had committed. Becoming ironically blessed with the power of an enchantress was one she wasn’t confident to reveal, more reason why she abandoned her powers. Though her ability to charm men temporarily had been to her advantage, she couldn’t bring herself to say it out, and not to mention, these same powers had placed her in a hot pan many years ago, leading to her exile.

Samantha felt a sense of deep empathy for her friend as she watched her expression contort into something that didn’t feel like happiness. She understood why Lucy had been hesitant to say anything from the beginning. "You’re incredibly strong Lucy, you’ve overcome so much. I don’t care what it is you might have done that led to your exile, we’re not gods, we’re allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. One is not defined by their past, but by the remarkable person they’ve grown to become. I have nothing to judge you for."

’Master, you still need to let her finish.’ Viney had said, almost blatantly, but Samantha paid no heed to her intrusive pet plant.

"I know, and that is because you’re a darling, too good to everyone." Lucy’s heartwarming smile faded a bit, and she bit her lower lip. "There’s something else."

"What?"

"His Majesty Duncan knows about my lineage. He... he thinks I’m capable of healing from his ailment. Am I the only one who believes there’s absolutely nothing wrong with him, or am I crushing too hard?" Lucy asked herself more. He looked absolutely perfect in her eyes– a gentle, no-nonsense vampire with the face of an angel. She hardly knows what sort of ailment he had, but from what she heard, some people said it was contagious, however, he had held her hand, and they had both conversed for more than ten minutes.

It didn’t cross her mind before but he actually held her hand! Is this a sign of good progress?

"I’ve never related myself with Duncan before." Samantha’s voice snapped Lucy out of her daydream. "He’s unbelievably... distant with everyone. The last time I caught a glimpse of him was at my wedding, and he sent his guards to deliver his gifts in his presence."

"He thinks my blood possesses some sort of elixir that can heal him." Lucy dropped her head to the table, "I don’t know what to do. It’s like the heavens are giving me a chance to make and break the connection I feel with His Majesty, Duncan. How can he love a maid though, I’m probably just the opening Chapter to his remedies, and when that is done, I’ll probably never set my eyes on him again."
