The Baroness Misbehaves

Chapter 211: Familiar Relation (1)

"Have I ever told you how big of a fool you are?"

"I appreciate your sincere compliment, brother." Osvaldo bowed his head politely at his elder brother, Napoleon, and a harmless smile graced his lips. "Your face is sour."

"What sort of expression are you expecting I show, Osvaldo?" He walked up to stand just two feets away from Osvaldo who in return, dipped his head in a low bow, avoiding his elder brother’s menacing gaze.

They were alone in Napoleon’s bathing chamber, and his malcontent was an aura that hardly diminished. To Osvaldo, there was nothing he could do to gain the favor of his older brother, and his smile cracked a bit, an attempt to keep his true emotions shrouded by his nontoxic smile.

"You saw the girl yourself, but you don’t believe me?" Osvaldo tilted his head slightly, his hazel eyes meeting the obstinate ones of his brother.

"She is a married woman, Osvaldo," Napoleon reminded his brother like he was speaking to a moron. "Her husband is a vampire with human blood running through his veins. This is history repeating itself again, and I’m sorry to say this, but there’s absolutely nothing we can do to change that."

"Sorrows, hardship, pain, guilt, sacrifices, demoralizing, anger." Osvaldo mentioned softly, "they have to be crossed in order to make it to the finish line, brother." He cleared his throat and continued, "there has always been a light at the end of the tunnel, it’s how you intend to get there that matters. I still see a flicker of light, and that lady, she holds that light."

Osvaldo stepped past his brother, the sole of his shoes clicking against the tiled floor. "Her Mother was the only existing fae in Whitebridge, the only one with powers capable of creating a barrier that will send these stained creatures into exile. How can we not treat the last fae with respect and offer her the help she needs?"

"She won’t make that sacrifice, you’re a seer, I don’t have to explain these things to you." Napoleon hissed out, "she barely knows a thing about her real self, a piece of her childhood memories are locked away, and it wasn’t unintentional." He turned to look at Osvaldo, his uncertainty becoming clearer in his gaze. "She won’t make that barrier if it comes with a heavy cost."
