Chapter 364: Invite
Patience had never been one of Derek’s strong points. Especially when there was something that he really really wanted to be doing. Just sitting back and waiting to heal had nearly had him pulling his own hair out. His uncle needed to be dealt with, and Derek wanted to confront him as soon as possible.
But unfortunately for him, he had barely made it out of his last encounter with Sebastian Haven alive. He still needed to heal. But in all honesty. If Derek did not have toworry that Emily would follow him into danger. He would have gone to confront Sebastian in his current state. Using his crutches as weapons if he had to.
If his Emily, his wonderful, beautiful, brave Emily would not have insisted on following him into the fight. Derek would have gone after his uncle without a second thought. But for Emily’s sake, he forced himself to stay hidden at the manor, and get better.
His time at the manor was not just focused on healing though. In an effort to stay sane. He had also started preparing for what would come after his uncle was ousted. Haven Group would need a lot of help to recover. So Derek was trying to fill up most of his time thinking of ways in which he was going to help the company recover. Something which took a lot of effort, and mental focus.
But even with all of that, there was only so much patience that Derek had and it was quickly running out. He had to do something. His uncle needed to be stopped. The longer he stayed in power, the more fearful Derek was of the man.
It seemed that being willing to kill his own family was just scratching the surface on things that his uncle was capable of. They had not been able to confirm things yet, but there were rumours flying around that his uncle was seriously entertaining the idea of financing dictators. Helping to empower people who thought very little of human rights. There were also whispers of him trying to win over warlords.
The kind who loved using child soldiers in their armies. That was a level of evil that Derek could not even imagine. But his uncle was said to be actively considering it. He had to be stopped. But the when and the how, were proving to be difficult. At least it seemed that way until the day that their mothers came to the manor with news.
"Your uncle is planning to throw a party to celebrate the fact that he is now the CEO, he sent me a handwritten invite," His mother said, pulling out the card and handing it over to Emily and Derek. At first, when Derek had been looking at the card. His uncle’s familiar handwriting on the expensive material, he had not been happy at all.
In fact, he had been livid.Only hisEmily’s hand over his own had stopped Derek from tearing the card apart.
Rage coursing through his veins at how crass Sebastian was being.
As far as his uncle knew, Derek was dead. And yet the man had sent his mother an invite to his party within weeks of Derek’s supposed demise. Had the invite come from anyone else, Derek would have tried to look for a different reason behind the gesture.
Trying to fool himself into thinking that his uncle was maybe doing it to try and get his mother out of a gloomy mood. But he knew better. His uncle had sent the invite to his mother as a jab, a way to rub salt in her grieving heart. It was a messed up thing to do, especially when considering that, if things had gone according to plan. Sebastian would have been directly responsible for killing his own nephew.
