Chapter 238: Game?
He and Emily were official. It was great news, splendid even. But Derek had to admit, from an outsider’s point of view. The two of them were a bit of a mess.
They had been working together for two years before they realized that both of them were battling the same ailment. The two of them so stubborn that they had been able to keep it secret from one another for so long. And then when they had finally realized that they were both having sleep problems.
They’d had a long drawn out, torture session, trying to figure things out. Until they finally got their act together and decided that sharing a bed would be best for them. Then it took them months of pining and an accidental kiss which had sent Emily running for the two of them to finally decide to become an official couple.
But even if from an outsider’s point of view, it was an absolute hot mess. It was their hot mess. And Derek loved every single bit of it. He would not change any of it for the world. And he was not just saying that.
It might have taken them a while to get there. But all of the little mishaps that they had. The ups and downs, from Emily quitting and becoming a waitress. To her coming back, and them realizing that they needed each other.
Those had all been important building blocks in their road to becoming boyfriend and girlfriend. Without those hurdles. Derek was pretty sure that he would not appreciate how much it was a miracle for him to look over at Emily and think, that is my girlfriend. A no-doubt dumb smile playing on his lips. His heart feeling as though it were about to burst.
If his relationship with Emily had come easy. Then Derek was pretty certain that he would not have appreciated what a miracle it was. But now Derek knew just how blessed he was, and he was not about to waste any moment with her.
If ever there was an opportunity to spend more time with Emily, then he would take it. Were it up to him, most of that time would be spent in bed, the two of them alternating between cuddling and kissing. But Emily had other ideas. After breakfast, when Derek had tried to head back upstairs, she had pulled her hand out of his, her hands going to her hips.
Her head tilted to the side.
It had almost looked as though she were bracing for an argument, and Derek had searched his mind frantically.
They had been a couple less than 48 hours. What could he have done to upset her in such a short period of time? Not only that, they had been asleep through the night.
