Chapter 237: Exes, and Current
The way that the world worked was strange. After Emily had kissed Derek and she had run out of the penthouse. She had been certain that she had ruined everything. A moment of weakness where she had let her guard down and just gone with her feelings, instead of logic had taken away the one good thing in her life.
But somehow instead of destroying everything. The kiss ended up being the final push that the two of them needed to become an official couple.
And Emily’s first day as Derek Haven’s girlfriend was nothing but blissful. She was pretty sure that it was the honeymoon phase. But even if it was, Emily still could not shake the joy that was just radiating from her in waves.
She was someone’s girlfriend and not just any someone. Derek Haven was her boyfriend.
Emily was not a newbie to the dating scene. She’d had other boyfriends before. But Derek might as well have been her first true boyfriend.
He was the first person that she was dating, that knew about her nightmares. Coming into the relationship with nothing but the truth was something else. It felt liberating in a way that all of her other relationships had not been.
Emily had always contributed a great deal to those relationships falling apart. There were some that she had ended before they had a chance to become anything serious. Being sure to nip the feelings in the bud as swiftly, and as painlessly as she could.
Realizing that the person that she was with was a good one, and that if they stayed tied to her for too long. She would be burdening them with all of the baggage that she brought along with her. Emily had never liked herself much after those relationships ended.
For the others who had been in short-lived relationships with her. Things had ended not because of Emily. But because the men had sensed weakness and in realizing that Emily had something big that she was holding back. They had thought that they could use it to their advantage.
