Chapter 168: Walk Of Shame
Five minutes before her alarm was supposed to go off, Emily woke up.
She would have loved to say that she was awakened by something like the sun in her eyes, or by breath against her cheek. But that would have been a lie. What woke her up, was the call of nature. She needed to pee, and she needed to pee fast. Her bladder felt ready to burst. And so, rather than laying in bed and enjoying the miracle that was being able to sleep without a single nightmare nipping at her heels. Emily had to go and relieve herself. Not only did she have to go, she had to go as soon as possible. Normally, it was an easy thing to pee. She just got out of bed, headed to the bathroom, and then relieved herself. But that morning things were different. For one, Emily was not alone in bed, and the fact that she was sharing with someone was making all of the difference. For it seemed that Derek Haven. CEO, her always aloof boss, was a sleep cuddler.
And not just any sleep cuddler, but a clingy one too. He was holding Emily so tight that she felt as though if he applied a bit more pressure, then she would burst.
It was not a good feeling at all. But somehow she really wanted to just stay there and not go anywhere. It was a pity that she could not.
She needed to find a way out of Derek’s clutches, and then make a mad dash to the bathroom. But that was easier said than done. After managing to free her arm, Emily reached over and grabbed her phone. She dismissed the alarm, before it could ring. Then she went back to her efforts of trying to get free.
After a bit of wriggling around, she managed to free her other arm. And then, with an undignified backward scoot, she was able to free herself from Derek’s hold completely. And once she was away from him, Emily sat up and looked over. Oh, she found herself frozen at the sight that greeted her. Derek Haven was a handsome man. That was a well-known fact. But there was something about seeing him asleep, that really brought that point home.
He looked, for lack of a better word, peaceful. And not just peaceful, but remarkably young too. His features were less severe.
The tight expression that always seemed to be on his face at work was completely gone.
