Chapter 4: Main kitchen
’Gosh, this place is so huge.’
As Shaan walked into the main kitchen area, a long queue of children his age stood in line to get the food that had been provided in a special rack containing various foods. He soon got into the queue before it got any longer.
’Wow, I have no idea there are so many kinds of food with such big portions. This is much better than the canteen at my old school.’
Shaan immediately picked up the tray, utensils, and began to select the food in front of him. His hands quickly picked up a bowl of warm rice and other side dishes, such as some cuts of meat and vegetables. He also took a box of milk and vegetable soup that was placed in a brown plastic bowl at the end of the rack.
"Alright, I think this is everything. I’d better start looking for a place before I get in the way of the line behind me."
Shaan’s eyes moved and scanned the surroundings, but there seemed to be absolutely no empty tables. He tried to walk a little further from his original position until he finally found an empty table at the far end, near the toilet door in the main kitchen area. Without lingering, Shaan accelerated his steps towards the table before anyone else saw it.
"It’s a good thing no one has noticed," Shaan smiled happily. "Okay, now it’s time to eat," he said, and tried the vegetable soup first. "Hmm... not bad. The vegetable soup is pretty good, although grandma’s vegetable soup is far -"
"Argh! Hey, watch your step, you idiot!" Shouted a yellow-haired woman, staring at the purple-haired woman who was in front of her. " It’s good, I’m okay. Or maybe you hit me on purpose, huh?!" shouted a yellow-haired woman, staring at the purple-haired woman who was in front of her.
"N-no. I’m sorry," said the purple-haired woman, lowering her head. "I-I don’t mean to hit you at all. I’m so sorry."
"What? What do you say?" The yellow-haired woman laughed mockingly, then lifted the woman’s chin roughly. "Hey, hey. Your voice is too small, like a mouse, and I can’t hear you at all."
