Chapter 150: HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Charlotte was a sickly child. Her father was from Amberale but her mother wasn’t. Her father was a wealthy merchant living in another kingdom and that was where he met her mother.
Because of Charlotte’s weak health, her parents took her to Amberale at a very young age to stay with her grandfather who was also a merchant since Amberale was more conducive to her health. They would occasionally visit her, but she was closer to her grandfather.
She met George for the first time when she was three years old and he was seven years old. Their grandfathers were good friends and had brought them to meet each other.
She had smiled at him, happy to meet the stranger. She usually didn’t meet much people outside of the ones she already knew. George only stared at her wordlessly without much expression on his face. That was their first meeting.
After that, they didn’t meet again as he had begun to attend the academy. The next time she saw him, she was six years old and he was ten.
She was a very quiet child but she would always speak a lot more than usual with him.
George also had begun to speak to her even though it was just a few sentences at first.
Their relationship improved since George’s grandfather would always bring him along to see her grandfather, and to her surprise, George would always come to visit on his own whenever he returned from the academy over the years.
She saw him for the last time since he began attending the academy when she was ten and he, fourteen.
Then three years later, she was thirteen years old and he was seventeen. George returned early from the academy, even before the academic year was over.
His grandfather was on his sickbed and would take his last breath at any moment. As quiet and reserved as she was, she tried as hard as she could to comfort him because she knew it was a very critical moment for him.
