Chapter 1890 - 1908: Conference Turmoil (Part 3)
I’m afraid that by then, there’ll be no merit, only misfortune waiting ahead!
Elder Song’s wise eyes scanned each face in the meeting room, carrying a scrutinizing gaze. He knew that the merit Bei Jiang had earned this time was truly substantial. Many people present were older and held higher positions than him, yet their achievements paled in comparison.
This kid Bei Jiang draws too much attention. In truth, his negative attitude and poor behavior this time didn’t anger Elder Song, but rather pleased him. It meant Bei Jiang knew how to keep a low profile and understood that rising too quickly wasn’t necessarily a good thing.
Being able to hold back is also an advantage.
Elder Song heard that Bei Jiang had a car accident on his way here and immediately suspected it was out of jealousy.
As Elder Song’s gaze swept over them, the meeting room fell into silence, and no one dared to speak. Time slowly ticked by, and about half an hour later, the door of the meeting room was knocked upon.
"Report!" a deep voice sounded from outside the door.
Tu Cheng and Lei Hao, seated closest to the door, recognized Huo Beijiang’s voice right away. They immediately straightened their backs, eyes intently fixed on the door.
"Come in!"
Huo Beijiang pushed the door open and entered, his military uniform neat and his cap accentuating his spirited figure, standing tall like a pine. He entered without changing his expression, keeping his eyes straight ahead as he saluted. As for his tardiness, he didn’t mention it at all.
Some people were waiting for him to explain or seize the chance to mock him, and were left fuming and glaring when he didn’t.
What a bastard!
So arrogant and insolent.
"It’s good you came," Elder Song chuckled.
After Huo Beijiang saluted, he lowered his head and immediately saw two pairs of glowing eyes. Arching an eyebrow, he whispered to Tu Cheng as he passed by, "I’m afraid I’m not your wife, so why are you looking at me like that?"
Tu Cheng: "..."
Breaking ties, must break ties immediately; not only my precious little brother but the whole family must break ties with this bastard.
Huo Beijiang’s sharp, eagle-like eyes quickly scanned the meeting room and found that, aside from the spot next to Elder Song at the head of the room, all other seats were occupied, leaving not a single extra chair.
He drew a faint, subtle smile at the corner of his mouth and strode over to Elder Song.
Elder Song had also just noticed the unreasonable seating arrangement, and anger rose in his heart. He patted the spot beside him, "Bei Jiang, since there’s no seat left, sit next to me. While you’re at it, give me a detailed account of the car accident on the way. I want to know exactly who was so audacious."
"Car accident?"
"How could there be a car accident just like that?"
The meeting room erupted in hushed discussions. Xi Liqun’s face turned sour immediately, and disregarding the occasion, he grabbed Huo Beijiang as he passed by, scrutinizing him up and down, "Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere? Since you got into a car accident, you shouldn’t have come; why didn’t you go straight to the hospital?"
The people in the meeting room, hearing Xi Liqun’s words, felt like rolling up their sleeves to thrash this old thing.
They had waited two and a half days, and now that he finally showed up, he wanted to send him back?
"I’m fine!" Huo Beijiang whispered.
"Glad to hear that. You scared me to death." Xi Liqun had a rough half-year, not only losing an important division commander but also constantly worrying about his subordinates causing trouble in Kannaya.
Random messages from Kannaya left him on edge. Never before had he seen subordinates with such nerve.
