He Became A Monstrous Genius After Obtaining A Time Dilation Artifact

Chapter 705. Leads

Count of Castelan’s estate.

In a villa.

In a room.

A beautiful-looking lady with sickly pale skin was seated before a mirror at the moment. She was dressed in normal nightwear. Her eyes had a very weary and tired look in them. Her gaze was distant as she stared into the night sky, as if she was recalling something. A pained expression flashed through her eyes.

It was obvious that whatever she had recalled was not pleasant. However, it was all she could think about.

At this moment, a man entered the room she was in. He bore a striking resemblance to the young girl. He had an air of authority around him. The moment he saw the lady, his eyes softened. He stood behind her without saying a word. He brushed his hands through her hair.

"My dear daughter, I may not know who did this to you, but I will try everything I can to get more rank 3 novice-stage light transcendents to try and cure you," the man said.

The lady held the man’s arms softly. She nodded, although she could not speak.

As for locating who was responsible for trying to assassinate his daughter and getting revenge, the Count of Castelan had no leads. Not even intelligence organizations in the city were able to find anything. It was as if all traces were gone. Whoever was responsible for this was a very proficient assassin.

He had been communicating with his daughter through writing, since she was too weak to speak. Up to now, she had been writing that she didn’t know anything about who tried to kill her. All she remembered was that on her way from Cinderwall City after an event, she was attacked on the way.

In a moment, the guards accompanying them suddenly plopped down dead on the ground. They had charred skins in death. The attacker had used the Principle of Lightning to attack them. However, there was no visible sight of the attacker in the vicinity. Whoever was behind the attack had hidden themselves very well.

She had been injured in the process from the attack. The lightning principle attack of the hidden assassin had severely wounded her. This was even with the intervention of her butler, who took some of the damage of the attack and ended up dying so she could escape.

The Count of Castelan didn’t know what to do. He had made a couple of enemies along the way. However, the problem was he did not know which one of them was behind the attack on his daughter. Therefore, he could not seek revenge for his daughter. He felt very helpless. Whoever was behind this had planned everything carefully.

And they were very ruthless. Instead of coming for him directly, they decided to strike him where it would hurt the most: kill his daughter.

He sighed with clenched fists. "I should focus on her recovery." A cold glint flashed through his eyes. "However, if an opportunity for revenge presents itself in the future, I won’t hesitate."

Kailen was still on the mountain. He had observed the interaction between the Count and his daughter in detail and gleaned their thoughts from their facial expressions using emotional resonance.

"So she was attacked when returning from Cinderwall City by a hired assassin with the law of lightning. The problem is the person hid themselves very well so there are no leads. However, from the Count’s thoughts, he has made a couple of enemies."

Kailen squinted his eyes.

"The issue with noble circles is, enemies may pose as friends in public and strike each other in secret. It may not be known to the public who his enemies are. This is definitely why even intelligence agencies have no leads to look for clues. I should closely monitor the Count from now on."

"In his situation where he wants revenge for his daughter, he is most likely to return to his chambers and keep thinking about which of his enemies is most likely responsible for what happened, even though he knows he won’t find any leads."

"All I need is to know his enemies from his thoughts. The rest will be easy." A glint flashed through Kailen’s eyes.

After changing his location to another part of the mountain range, Kailen continued to monitor the Count of Castelan. He didn’t let his eyes off the man for even a second. Kailen was someone who could be extremely patient. He was not perturbed. He waited.

So far, the Count did nothing. He had just returned to his chambers and stared at the portrait of a feminine figure on the wall for a very long time. After that, he went to bed. Sleep was not something transcendents needed to survive. It was simply a way of dealing with stress for most. After all, they would not have to think of their problems when they were asleep, right?

All this while, Kailen’s eyes never left the man for a single moment. He was waiting for the perfect moment.

The Count woke up from bed several hours later. He sat down on a sofa in his large bedroom in thought.

"I know I have grudges with the Count of Coldridge, Valemont, Windermere, and Grimwood. However... who among them could it be?" The Count sighed.

He shook his head in a frustrated manner. He was even about to break some things in the bedroom from frustration and anger; however, he held himself back. Very soon, he let out a defeated sigh.

"I’m really going mad. I should focus on my daughter’s recovery. If I don’t get some light transcendent to heal her, I will lose her."

Kailen was still observing him, gleaning his thoughts from his facial expressions with emotional resonance from the mountain range.

"So those are his enemies, huh. All of them are Counts in Richtchard City too. Although they are spread across different districts, it shouldn’t be hard to find them. Let’s find who among them is responsible for the attack and get this mission over with," Kailen thought.
