Chapter 19. University recommendation
Kailen's thoughts had sometimes lingered towards the anonymous savior that had clutched him from having a reunion with his parents. However, he had not dwelt on the thought too deeply, brushing it off , then focusing on more important matters.
He had too much on his plate after stepping into the forest after all to consider such frivolous thoughts. From running from a wyvern, to almost losing his life, to being stuck in a cave with an exterior teeming with ginormous winged A ranked diabolic beasts.
Not to mention the fact that right after escaping from the cave, every human he had technically met had tried to take his life, and worst of all, a sword of Damocles hung above his head until recently, thanks to the system. He would have become a non-awakened , had he failed to accomplish the mission he was assigned to by the system.
However, all that was over now, and most of all, the 'why' behind the person's reason for saving him surfaced. He was well aware of how wicked people were. He had seen firsthand how even those who claimed to love you would abandon you and scorn you when you failed to live up to their expectations.
The only people who had sincerely cared about him and loved him without demanding he proves himself to deserve that love was his parents.
The only people who had sincerely placed value on him without demanding he proves himself to deserve that value was his parents.
''Surely a person cannot save me without any selfish reason behind their actions, right? No one in this world, is a selfless person . If she's the one that saved me, then why would she do that, have I been wrong about people?'' In the few seconds following the young lady's statement, Kailen's thoughts traced along this line.
Yet, his memories took him on a short trip. He remembered the scornful gazes, the snarls, the beatings, the mockery, the insults, how even his two childhood friends, Stephen and Rio, had joined the bullies to trash him around. ''Of all the people who to hurt me, why did it have to be them?''
Recalling these memories, Kailen's heart ached . He did not rid himself of the painful sensation he felt in his heart, he embraced it.
