Chapter 19: A Subtle Atmosphere
Now, as he ate the dinner Bai Yiran had spent all afternoon preparing for him, listening to her chatter, Leng Yichen felt that his rare impulsive decision was entirely correct. He enjoyed this feeling!
After the two of them finished dinner, Bai Yiran began to clear the table and wash the dishes, but Leng Yichen stopped her, "Leave it there. Sister Liu will clean it up in the morning."
Sister Liu had left after Leng Yichen returned and didn’t stay overnight. She would come over before 7:30 in the morning to prepare breakfast, then take care of cleaning and keeping the house during the day. If necessary, she would prepare dinner in the evening; otherwise, she would leave at six o’clock.
"I’m going to take a shower and change my clothes. You rest for a while," said Leng Yichen, picking up his coat from the sofa in the living room and heading upstairs.
Bai Yiran suddenly realized that only she and Leng Yichen were left in this large house, and she felt a bit at a loss.
It took Bai Yiran quite a while on the first floor before she slowly made her way upstairs. Standing in the corridor on the second floor, she didn’t know what to do. She felt a bit scared, and her hands began to sweat. Although she and Leng Yichen were married, they were not very familiar with each other, and this made her feel uncomfortable. The sound of water from the bedroom bathroom only added to her unease.
Bai Yiran stood by the window in the second-floor corridor, adjusting her breathing as she looked at the scenery outside.
"Didn’t you put your luggage in the bedroom?" Leng Yichen’s voice came from behind her.
Bai Yiran didn’t dare to turn around. Her fingers trembled slightly as they gripped the windowsill, "Uh... I put my luggage in the bedroom next door."
"Why?" Leng Yichen’s voice was calm, giving away no emotion.
Bai Yiran bit her lip, "You know, I just got dumped, and even though we’re married, I’m... I’m not ready yet... I can’t sleep with someone I don’t love... I’m... sorry..."
