"We are very fortunate," Ye Ling sighed. Before the guard made any comment, he added, "We are very fortunate that Miss Gu and her followers are here to seek refuge. Just imagine the consequence if they were the enemies and you opened the gate for them. Would you risk everybody else’s life in the city just because your life was threatened?"
The guard did not know what to answer. "My cousin," he stammered. Intuitively, he felt threatened and was ready to get away from Ye Ling’s reach. However, Ye Ling’s fingers never left his neck. He failed to escape Ye Ling’s grasp. Instead, his sudden retreat allowed Ye Ling to bury his sharp nails deeply into his wound.
The wound burst open, with blood flowing all over Ye Ling’s fingers. However, he did not take his fingers out of the wound. Instead, he buried his nails even deeper! The guard was terrified and in pain. Panic filled his eyes. "My cousin brother, please... Please spare my life on... On Madam Yun’s behalf," he pleaded.
After that, he could not speak of another word. The nails finally penetrated through the aorta on his neck and reached the airway in his throat, thus blocking air from reaching the lungs. The guard gasped for air but still could not breathe.
Ye Ling took his hand back and let the guard fall to the ground. Blood flowed out of the wound continuously. He was about to die, for sure. Soon, he was dead on the ground with his eyes wide open, seemingly in disbelief that his own cousin brother would sentence him to death in such a brutal way.
