Chapter 1338: Traitor II
For a restricted area, there is quite a lot of activity around Mirror Lake, but it could be that these people were hunters paid by the mayor to kill Bael lasthe Lady at the Dinner said.
"Would you like to check it out? Jay grinned mischievously.
Lory suddenly felt like she was back in time and the corners of her pink lips curled into a wide grin. "Duh, isn’t this what we came here for?!"
Lory, Clift, and Jay cast a camouflage spell and silently descended the hillside. Soon they caught up with several burly men carrying weapons, who by the looks of it must be hunters.
Three hunters sat around a campfire grilling while one of them opened up a beer and sipped slowly, after that he let out a long sigh. They seem to have come here for a vacation rather than to hunt Beasts.
Clift motioned for Lory and Jay to climb up. With tacit understanding, the three of them simultaneously jumped to the highest branch covered in thick green leaves that conveniently hid their presence but were still close enough for them to eavesdrop on their conversation.
"Are you sure we won’t get caught? I don’t want to have a problem with the King’s Men, you know!" one of the hunters sounded apprehensive.
The second hunter replied casually while sipping his drink, "Don’t worry, the mayor is on our side so no one will find out and I heard there’s some trouble in the capital with King Lucas or something so they wouldn’t have time to care about anything else besides we’re only here for five days, when the King’s Men started getting suspicious we’d be long gone."
The corners of Jay’s lips curled into a sinister smirk, while Clift’s eyes turned icy cold and Lory silently lit a candle for these poor hunters in her heart. These people should have never brought up Lucas’ situation. That was like plucking a tiger’s whiskers.
The first hunter sighed heavily, "I hope you’re right because if the King’s Men catch us, we’re as good as dead!"
"Don’t worry! Why didn’t you say anything when you received the money, huh? There’s no point in worrying now!" The third hunter was annoyed by his friend’s constant worry.
