Chapter 515: Volume 12: The Burning Demon Flame, - 6: Provoke
The worsening injuries of Burianos and Grace plunged everyone’s spirits into a deep valley.
The yin fire within Burianos’ body was ignited once again. Although Burianos had restrained his power during the battle, and the earlier treatment from Komer had given him a chance to catch his breath, the fierce combat had inevitably triggered the underlying disease in his body.
Grace’s situation seemed even worse. The enemy assassin’s sword had nearly been fatal in her torso. If Komer hadn’t timely lent a hand, Grace might have already been lying in a heap of graves.
Although Eve’s healing magic had helped her recover from external injuries, her wounds were agitated once more when she forcefully clashed with a magic shield created by three enemy mages. But these weren’t even the worst part. The assassin that wounded Grace was clearly a nefariously cunning fellow, having coated his blade with a paralytic toxin and catalyzing it with magic to significantly accelerate the spread of the poison.
This venom was even more formidable than those that directly lead to death because most lethal venoms cannot be catalyzed by magic. Fighters adept in close combat had usually consumed some antidotes to resist such toxins. Additionally, poisons that lead to death tend to act slowly and are easy to treat. Truly fast-acting and difficult-to-treat lethal poisons were rare on the Blue Continent.
The poison in Grace’s system, however, was derived from animal saliva, and particularly catalyzed with specialized water-based magic, enhancing its spreading capability. Even though Grace exerted all her power to suppress the toxicity, she still couldn’t stop its proliferation.
When Komer and his group emerged from the Bohemia Ministry of Internal Affairs, Grace was already having difficulty moving her body. Komer even felt that Grace’s facial expressions had become somewhat stiff, which attested to the severity of the poison’s effect.
All others had left the room, leaving only the recently arrived Komer and the helpless Eve and Lome. Although Lome had no affection for the naked girl lying on the bed, out of duty as a comrade, she tried her best to help. Sadly, despite all efforts by Eve and Lome, they were unable to control the spread of the poison in Grace’s body, which even reached her lower half because her legs were also slightly cut in the enemy’s final strike. The external wound was not serious, but it became another source of poison.
