Rise did not pay attention to the gossip and talk around him. No one bothered him either. His temper was practically known to all.

This time, Rise finally lifted his head. Alphen clicked his tongue but did not say anything more. The four of them huddled in one corner.

"How would I know?" Rise shrugged at him. His mood was not that bad, but not good either. The three noticed it and did not press either.

Nikolai only asked this, but was not hoping for an answer. After all, for him, they were all clueless as to why they were suddenly transported out of the gate, and the said gate was now closed.

It was truly strange.

"Do you think that the outsider who destroyed the city had something to do with this?" The three looked at Nikolai when he said this. "Even if the otherworld natives blame it on us, I know none of the espers had that ability. It’s far too destructive."

As part of the Special Department in the Union, he was privy to some confidential files, but none of them were close to the ability that almost swallowed the whole city and its inhabitants.

It seemed not to be a simple S-class ability either.

"What do you think?" Nikolai eyed Rise.

Rise bravely met his eyes. Nikolai was not really suspicious of him and was merely accustomed to this way of talking with him. The other always asks Rise for his opinions, proving his trust in the latter’s judgment.

"Maybe." Rise chose not to comment further, even if he wanted to show off Kamille’s ability the most.

Again, the three were used to these short answers from Rise. He looked uninterested, so they stopped talking about it. Even if the outsider who used black fire was indeed the one who closed the gate, that was already none of their business.

It was only a pity that they had not been able to gather enough information inside the gate, and the higher-ups must have been pissed at this development.

They were aiming for a lot of benefits inside the gate, but those could not be realized now.

Sure enough, the Union representatives arrived. They began their usual boring speech.

The representative was just asking everyone to stay because they were going to ask them something. And here Rise, planning to leave immediately.

Of course, the Union would not be able to force him to stay.

Rise nodded. He was bored out of his mind, but also... There were more important things for him to do.

Some glanced at him when he walked towards the exit. The union staff and security clearly did not know whether to stop him, but one instruction from their earpiece made them stop and let Rise leave.

Him being there or not was really important, as Rise’s temper was known to all; his presence might even distract them instead. Rise was not one to cooperate with them. The higher-ups would not be able to move him as well, knowing who stood behind him.

Rise leisurely left the gathering hall, his footsteps light. He deliberately made it this way, clearly waiting for some movement behind him.

Soon, he felt a presence walking behind him.

Rise did not look back to see who it was; his lips merely curled slightly. There was not one presence outside except them, making their footsteps prominent.

Once they were in front of the elevator and it opened, Rise suddenly turned around and smiled, grabbing the familiar arm and dragging him inside the elevator.

The elevator closed, and one could even see the image of the two men hugging each other. Rise looked up.

"They let you leave?"

"Hmm." Kamille nodded.

He leaned down and captured Rise’s lips, pouring his frustration of not being able to hold him for those few minutes when they returned.

Rise was the same. The two were being dramatic when it was only a few minutes of separation!

Their lips parted exactly as the elevator stopped at the floor Rise pressed earlier.

On this floor, the two did not stick like glue as usual, but they did not pretend to be strangers either. They did walk side by side, hands touching subtly.
