Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 1370 - 636: Father and Son (2)

So, after my husband took over the film company, he immediately invested a sum of money into it to make a film. However, not only did that film fail to make money, it actually lost quite a bit.

Therefore, my husband terminated the film investment plan.

It's not that my husband didn't want to make money from filmmaking; he was just waiting for better themes and projects to come along. But Otway Stone couldn't wait.

He was eager to use the film company's profits to repay debts. Over and over, he asked my husband for investment to start new film projects, but those scripts weren't any better than the previous film.

That's precisely why my husband felt Otway Stone had lost the basic judgment of a film investor.

The more anxious he became, the less my husband dared to let him manage the film company.

He was like a red-eyed gambler, ready to stake everything to turn the tables."

"When I met Otway Stone, he seemed very happy. Did you put him back in charge of the film company?"

Grace Coffey thought for a moment, "You could say that, but there are conditions. He must first finish filming the Coffey family documentary."

Luke was curious, "It seemed like you agreed with your husband's decision earlier, so why did you put Otway Stone back in charge of the film company?

Aren't you worried he'll rush into making new films for quick success?"

Grace Coffey chuckled, "Wow, that's a good question.

My husband just passed away, and the Coffey Group needs stability...

I need supporters and don't want to hear too many opposing voices.

So, at least for now... I'll make some concessions.

As for the future... who knows?

Maybe it will be a new situation again.

Let's wait until he finishes the Coffey family documentary first before discussing further."

Luke teased, "So, you found yourself a free laborer."

Grace Coffey shrugged, "I wouldn't say that. If he can come up with good scripts and make profitable films, I have no reason to refuse."

Luke changed the topic, "Do you know Wang Shaokang?"

Grace Coffey thought for a moment, "What does he do?"

"A lawyer."

"I've dealt with quite a few lawyers, but I'm not very familiar with that name." Grace Coffey instinctively asked, "Which law firm is he with?"

"Hope Law Office."

Grace Coffey shrugged, "I don't remember dealing with a law firm with such a peculiar name; I don't know him.

Does this person have something to do with my husband's case?"

"Not sure yet." Luke replied perfunctorily, continuing, "Forty years ago, did something significant happen in the Coffey family?"

"Forty years ago?

That's a long time ago; I was in my teens then, the best time of my life." Grace Coffey reminisced, "I hadn't married into the Coffey family yet, but our families were old friends. If something major happened to their family, I should have known."

Grace Coffey was silent for a moment, frowning slightly, "I remember now, forty years ago, my husband's father was murdered. No, to be precise, it was thirty-nine years ago."

"Mr. Gallian Coffey's father was also killed?"

"Yes."

"Was he also working at the Coffey Group then?"

"He was the founder of the Coffey Group and the first Chairman."

"So, after thirty-nine years, both successive Chairmen of the Coffey Group were murdered?"

"That's right." Grace Coffey nodded, suddenly murmuring, "Looks like I need to think it over carefully."

Luke thought for a moment; he hadn't seen any information about Gallian Coffey's father being murdered in Gallian Coffey's file, "Thirty-nine years ago, after Gallian Coffey's father was murdered, which department was responsible for the investigation?"

"FBI."

That explains it.

Luke pressed on, "Do you know why Gallian Coffey's father was killed?"

"Uh..." Grace Coffey's expression was somewhat peculiar, "You should ask the FBI. I'm not very clear about it either."

Luke felt like she was dodging, so he made a key notation in his notebook and asked, "Have you heard of the Silver Cross case?"

"Is it related to my husband's case?"

"Not sure yet; the Silver Cross case happened forty years ago."

Grace Coffey shook her head and laughed, "A teenage girl wouldn't be interested in such a case and has no impression of it."

Luke stood up, "Mrs. Coffey, thank you for your assistance."

"I hope it helps you."

"Of course."

Then, Luke and Little Black left the Chairman's office.

Little Black whispered, "Why not ask her about Dido Bruns from Coffey Travel Company's business trip to New York?"

"Asking wouldn't be very meaningful; it would only make her alert."

"OK, where are we going now?"

...

FBI Los Angeles Office.

With Luke leading, the two entered the FBI office building and took the elevator up to the third floor, the criminal investigation department's office area.

Little Black marveled, "Wow, we entered the core area of the FBI so smoothly; not a single person stopped us."

Luke waved his work ID, "No one wants to offend a Deputy Director of the Anti-Terrorism Department."

"OK, I have to admit, that title is quite intimidating." Little Black chuckled.

The two walked to the office of the Criminal Investigation Department's Head, and Luke knocked on the door, "Knock knock."

"Come in."

Inside the office, Anthony looked up towards the door, "Luke, why are you here?"

Luke greeted, "Hey, buddy, I came to see you."

"Haha, your work relationship just changed to the Anti-Terrorism Department. Are you here to handle the paperwork?" Anthony was a bit envious, "You've really made a name for yourself this time, kid."

"I'm already used to it." Luke didn't mind, pulling a chair to sit down.

Anthony looked at Little Black, "Hey, buddy, why are you here too? Are you here to join our FBI? Then you'll have to work harder; our admission standards are very high."

Little Black rolled his eyes, "Haha, I'd rather be wandering the streets."

Anthony laughed, "Yeah, congratulations on finding a more suitable job."

Luke interrupted the banter, "Anthony, I'm investigating the Coffey family case."

"I heard Gallian Coffey was murdered.

He's quite a figure in Los Angeles; we've met at parties." Anthony spread his hands, "Buddy, what do you want me to do?"

Luke inquired further, "Do you know the Coffey family?"

"The Coffey family has a lot of businesses in Los Angeles. I know a bit about the Coffey Group, but I've never been in contact with them.

I've heard the Coffey family used to have good relations with the FBI's higher-ups, but most of those old folks are gone."

Luke said, "While investigating Gallian Coffey's murder case, I discovered something. Thirty-nine years ago, Gallian Coffey's father, Burnett Coffey, was also murdered.

The case back then was investigated by the FBI, and I'd like to see the files of that case."

Anthony thought for a moment, "The two cases are thirty-nine years apart. Is there any connection?"

Luke replied, "On the surface, besides them being father and son, there's really no connection, but this also involves another case from forty years ago, the Silver Cross case.

At Gallian Coffey's murder scene, clues identical to the Silver Cross case were found, and the Silver Cross case was close to the time of Burnett Coffey's murder.

I always feel there's some connection between the three cases."

Anthony picked up his desk phone and made a call, "It's me. Go to the archives and bring the files of the Burnett Coffey murder case from thirty-nine years ago."

"Thanks."

"We're family."

Little Black smirked. If he came alone, the FBI wouldn't be so accommodating.

He suspected Anthony would find any excuse to kick him out of the office.
