Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

West Los Angeles, Koffi Tower.

The tower is 40 stories high and has been standing for thirty years. Thanks to ample funding for renovations, it still looks quite impressive from the outside.

Little Black stopped the car, looked up at the towering building, and asked, "Captain, what are we doing at the Kofi Group?"

"To talk to the person in charge of the Kofi Group?"

"OK." Little Black nodded, "Who's the current head of the Kofi Group?"

"I don't know either.

Whoever is currently in charge at the Kofi Group, that's who I'll talk to." Luke walked straight into the building.

Little Black caught up, "I get it. Whoever benefits the most from this case is likely the suspect."

The hotel lobby was very grand, covered in dark marble tiles, with wall lamps lit above. On the right was a lounge area, and on the left was the reception desk.

While in the car, Luke had already gone through the Kofi Group's profile, and at the reception, he said, "Hello, I'd like to see your company's CEO."

Luke didn't know who was in charge of the company, and he assumed the receptionist didn't either. The best way was to meet the actual manager and get a feel for their stance.

A blonde woman in a black professional skirt asked, "Sir, what is your name?"

"My surname is Li."

"Mr. Li, do you have an appointment?"

"No."

"Sorry.

The CEO's schedule is full today, you need an appointment to see him..."

"Hey, Captain Li, we meet again." A white man walked out of the elevator, greeting with a smile.

Luke turned around to see Otway Stone, a director from a film company he had met yesterday.

"Mr. Otway Stone, what brings you here?"

Otway Stone chuckled, "After talking with you yesterday, I realized the situation at Kofi Group has changed.

Perhaps I could seize this opportunity to secure some of my own interests.

So, I scheduled a meeting with Miss Grace Coffey, and we had a delightful conversation."

Seeing his cheerful demeanor, Luke speculated, "Congratulations on being able to film the movie you hoped for."

"Haha, not that easy, I still need to finish the... family documentary first.

Anyway, I'm in a hurry.

Suddenly being busy is something I'm not quite used to." Otway Stone waved and prepared to leave.

Luke called after him, "Miss Grace Coffey is also at the Koffi Tower?"

"That's right, she met with me in the Chairman's office." Otway Stone said before leaving with a smile.

"Looks like she's the one we need to find." Luke said to Little Black, then turned to the receptionist, "I want to meet with Chairwoman Grace Coffey."

The blonde woman repeated as before, "Sir, do you have an appointment?"

"No, but please help us get in touch with her.

Perhaps she wants to see us too." Luke flashed his badge, "Just say Officer Li of Robbery and Murder Department wants to see her, she knows who I am."

"One moment." The blonde nodded and picked up the phone.

After a while, the blonde hung up the phone, her demeanor softened, she smiled, "Officer Li, Mrs. Grace Coffey is waiting for you in the Chairman's office on the thirtieth floor."

"Thank you."

Luke and Little Black took the elevator up to the thirtieth floor.

The elevator doors opened to reveal a sharp-dressed, short-haired woman in her forties asking, "Officer Li?"

"That's me."

"Please follow me, I'm Mrs. Coffey's assistant."

The short-haired woman walked briskly, hardly communicating with Luke as she led them outside the Chairman's office, where she knocked on the door.

"Come in." A woman's voice came from inside the room.

The short-haired woman opened the door and gestured for Luke and Little Black to enter the office.

The office was very spacious and luxuriously decorated. Opposite them was a row of floor-to-ceiling windows with excellent lighting. Behind the desk sat a woman in a blue dress; it was Grace Coffey.

Grace Coffey stood up to greet them, "Captain Li, didn't expect to see you again so soon. Hope you bring good news."

Luke replied, "The investigation has indeed made some progress. I'm here at the Kofi Group to inquire about a few things."

"How did you know I was here?"

Luke shook his head, "Actually, I didn't know. I just wanted to speak with someone familiar with the Kofi Group.

I happened to run into Director Otway Stone downstairs; he told me you were here."

"Please, have a seat. Would you like something to drink?"

"Thank you, no need."

Grace Coffey glanced at Little Black and continued asking, "Do you think my husband's death is related to the company?"

"That's not yet certain, but as the Chairman of Kofi Group, that possibility is significant.

We need to rule this out."

"OK, go ahead, ask your questions."

"Are you familiar with Otway Stone?"

"He used to be my husband's friend. Later, when his film company's funding chain broke, facing bankruptcy, my husband invested in his company.

I've met him a few times, but we are not close."

"What about your husband's relationship with him?"

"Uh... it's a bit complicated to explain, originally, they had a good relationship, but when friendships involve interests, things get tricky, yes, that's how my husband described their relationship."

Luke said, "I spoke with Otway Stone, according to him, your husband attempted to take over Otway's film company."

"I know, my husband also mentioned it to me, it upset him.

He had no intention of taking over Otway's film company, he knew Otway Stone had considerable debts and needed to make profitable films to repay them."
