Chapter 88: Going Deeper
Edith’s whole body paused for a moment as she saw Miguel’s hand reaching towards her lips.
Her heart suddenly beat wildly, anticipation was on her face as she closed her eyes, ready to receive what Miguel has to offer.
However, his hand merely caressed her lips before a soothing sensation filled her mind. The slight pain she was feeling on her lips that Miguel bit before had now disappeared.
"There, that should help heal your lip wound," Miguel stated with a calm smile.
Edith opened her eyes. A little disappointment flashed across it as she transformed into a streak of light leaving behind some words to show her gratitude.
"Thank you!"
Miguel also stored the grimoire back to his Inner World immediately after. He then moved and picked up his torn clothes on the ground.
In truth, Miguel actually has an inkling of what kind of method Edith used to save him earlier, especially after seeing the wound on her lips. However, he chose not to delve deeper into it as he could tell that Edith was not comfortable saying it to him.
At this moment, Miguel tore a piece of his cloth that had been ripped apart in the ground earlier, chose the biggest piece of it and wrapped it around his face to act as a mask. The scale mask he crudely made broke apart after he struck his head on the cave’s wall due to the massive pain he was feeling.
Miguel had still not forgotten about Erika and Gasper’s situation.
He previously speculated that the bandits’ temporary hideout was near or even at Ghost Wail Mountain.
He was not entirely sure the previous time, but upon the discovery of this cave and its origin and their speculation about how it was formed, Miguel thought that the bandits might have found a similar cave somewhere around Ghost Wail Mountain and used it as their temporary hideout.
Considering the stories of the people in Red Cliff City saying that ghost wails would resound all throughout the surrounding area of Ghost Wail Mountain, as well as the multiple tunnel pathways he encountered earlier, Miguel was now hundred percent sure that there were other caves all throughout the mountain that acted as the demonic miasma’s exit point.
He guessed that the bandits’ hideout must be one of these pathways and there was a high chance of encountering them later.
He wanted to cover his face and hid the fact that he was Miguel so that he would be able to go all out in summoning Aaliyah and Edith later.
Miguel wrapped the piece of ripped cloth and covered the lower half of his face as well as his neck to hide the necklace he won from Gasper a week ago.
He then continued walking forward, this time, no longer in a hurry due to the danger of getting demonized.
Due to that, he was now able to observe his surroundings more carefully.
The wailing sounds would resound from time to time, breaking the few minutes of silence in these underground tunnels.
As he walked deeper and deeper, the colder it became, contrary to his expectations. He also has no trouble breathing here.
Miguel also noticed that the tunnel grew wider and wider the deeper he went, confirming Edith’s words that this tunnel was indeed made by the heart of the demon and its desire to come out with a full-fledged army waiting for it outside.
Miguel also guessed that the deeper he went, this tunnel would become even much wider.
As he walked, Miguel passed by branches after branches of the tunnels. However, Miguel continued walking, not minding those splitting paths at all.
Miguel only has one destination, and that was the center of all these tunnels where the sealed heart lies.
Unfortunately, the Ghost Wail Mountain was very big. It might take a while for Miguel to arrive at the center of this mountain if he continued with his pace.
Hence, Miguel finally decided to run, pausing only after the wailing sound entered his ears to rest.
The wailing sound has no pattern at all, but Miguel estimated that each interval would always be after more than ten minutes.
A few hours later, Miguel still did not see an end to this tunnel-like structure which had now become almost ten meters wide and fifteen meters tall.
Miguel decided to take a short break for now as he was also feeling the exhaustion already.
He also realized that it was now time to cultivate another drop of Origin Energy.
Anyways, he sat on the rough ground and began to meditate as he circulated and performed the Return of Origin Technique.
Fortunately, this area was not devoid of any Grimoire Summoning Energy and was even a little denser compared to outside, to Miguel’s delight.
As he closed his eyes and quickly entered a deep meditative state, Miguel accessed his Inner World and noticed that he now only had 2 Origin Energy drops remaining after constantly using his skills to reach Ghost Wail Mountain quickly before.
Knowing that, Miguel became even more eager to cultivate.
With the grimoire being full of Grimoire Summoning Energy right now, Miguel did not waste anymore time as he began the refining process.
This time, the process became even more shorter, allowing him to obtain a drop of Origin Energy just after 30 minutes.
Miguel noticed that the surrounding Grimoire Summoning Energy was still thick so he decided to try and condense another drop of Origin Energy one more time.
Thirty minutes later, another drop of Origin Energy floated right above his grimoire, along with the other three, he now has a total of four Origin Energy drops floating above the grimoire right now.
Miguel had only broken through recently. He previously used a total of 6 Origin Energy drops before his body was fully cleansed for the third time and he reckoned that the next cleansing stage would surely require even more drops.
Thinking of that, Miguel decided to gauge the requirement by sending one drop to circulate around his body.
"Hmmm?"
However, the moment he did so, something strange immediately caught his attention.
