I Can Contract Beauties

Chapter 87: Edith Ainsworth

"What do you mean?"

Miguel was now a hundred percent sure that the demonic miasma truly came from this place. However, its exact location was still a mystery as of the moment and he still did not know how deep this tunnel-like cave would end.

Her era was an era full of demonized beasts and the Demons she spoke of. For her to say that she might know where the source came from, then it was a huge probability that it was indeed the case.

In the first place, perhaps, her connection to this place was deeper than he expected.

The system would detect a sign-in opportunity if it detects a suitable place.

What constitutes a suitable place, and what was not?

This was still his second sign-in opportunity so he could not confirm its pattern.

However, it looks like it would automatically detect if a place has a certain historical significance.

Thinking of that, Miguel called out the grimoire and looked at the third page to see Edith’s information recorded in the grimoire.

Her striking and valiant image was displayed at the upper part of the previously blank page. Her eyes were closed yet one could feel the fighting spirit hidden within it.

[Name: Edith Ainsworth

Title: Final Warrior, Martial Saint

Grade: Gold

Level: Level 1

Type: Fighting Type

Description: A genius Martial Artist from long ago. Believed to have reached the pinnacle during her time. A menace to the invading Demons. Bold, straightforward and decisive with her actions. Later dubbed as the Final Warrior for successfully defending a whole city from an army of demonized beasts all by herself, gaining time until reinforcements arrived. She sacrificed herself during the battle with the Demon leader, bringing peace to the world for the time to come.]

Below this description was a glowing text that read [Innate Beast], the same as Aaliyah, whom he also received from the Beauty Sign-In System.

"Before I perished from my previous life, I actually was in the middle of a fight with a tentacled demon. Our fight lasted for a few months and was eventually decided in this place. At that time however, I do not have the ability to completely eradicate it out of this world. Hence, I sealed its heart deep in a mountain back then, hoping that future generations that were stronger than me would come here after our battle and finish what I have started."

"However, seeing the situation now, it seems that my intention had not reached the people of my time at all," Edith lamented while shaking her head.

The sorrow in her voice resonated in Miguel.

She sacrificed herself to seal her enemy here, hoping that her people would come and finish the battle that she could not finish. However, her people disappointed her and did not meet her expectations.

"So, you mean that this Ghost Wail Mountain was that mountain back then?" Miguel asked as Edith nodded her head to confirm.

Hearing that, Miguel finally believed his assumption about the system selecting suitable sing-in location depending on the historical significance, no matter if the world knew or not.

Thinking of that, he wondered what kind of historical significance the Red Manor has for Aaliyah’s sign-in location to be there.

It seems that he needs to investigate that place in the future as Aaliyah doesn’t seem to have that many memories of her past life, unlike Edith. Or maybe she just did not have the time to tell him yet due to their limited interactions?

"Are you also the one who made these tunnels?" Miguel stood up and asked curiously.

This time, Edith shook her head.

"No, I only dug a deep hole straight down during that time. This should have been made naturally."

"You see, Demons are very resilient and powerful creatures. Even though I grinded that Demon to its last heart, it was still able to manipulate my body with the lingering demonic miasma, not allowing me to finish the last heart, hence I could only seal it at that time before I die."

"Although I have succeeded, countless years might have already passed since that time and the seal might have already weakened by now."

"These tunnels might have been created by it for it’s demonic miasma to seep out of the mountain and infect living beings with it so that when it eventually escaped the seal, it would have an army of demonized beast ready to follow its commands"

Miguel clicked his tongue upon hearing that.

"An army of demonized beasts, huh. That is indeed dangerous. Do you think you and Aaliyah combined would be able to finish it right now?"

Edith went silent for a moment before she nodded her head. "Although my current strength is not even a fraction to what I have before, the one I sealed is only the last heart of the Demon. It should have already become weaker after battling with the seal over the years, so I think it’s worth a try."

"Alright then," Miguel nodded his head calmly upon hearing that.

He was still very weak at this moment and could only rely on his two powerful summons.

The reason why he wanted to try and finish it off right now was also because of his curiosity regarding these demons.

He was still clueless about this invading race, but they seemed to have some similar characteristics of the Demon race from his previous life, hence he wanted to see it with his own eyes and confirm for himself.

"Right, the wailing sound we’ve been hearing since earlier is that heart. It was producing this kind of sound before I sealed it. It might be releasing its demonic miasma along with the sound as well."

Miguel nodded his head. He also kind of guessed it already after hearing Edith’s story.

"Okay, just follow this path and summon us when the time comes. I’ll return to your grimoire first so as not to consume my remaining time," Edith added.

"Wait!"

She was just about to transform into a streak of light when Miguel reached out his hand to touch her soft lips.
