Reaper's Resurgence: A System Reset

B5 | Chapter 53

Dimensional Block #108

Zetrak, the half lightning spirit, feels nothing but anger and terror as he hurries straight into the 108th Dimensional Block. The very place where the majority of the Quantum Reaper’s friends and loved ones are.

At least, the ones they’re capable of taking hostage, since he knows there’s no chance of them capturing the Hound of the Apocalypse or the devourer.

Even with the army of over one and a half dozen Ascendants behind him, he still doesn’t believe he can fight the Quantum Reaper now that she’s an Ascendant.

At first his plan was to run and hide, despite how much his half spirit nature hates that idea. But after seeing one Ascendant hunted down like vermin after another by the Quantum Reaper, that idea was trashed, and a new one took form.

Because he realized he couldn’t run.

None of them could run.

He isn’t even sure how she’s tracking them, but she is somehow. Almost like she knows exactly where they all are.

And that’s terrifying.

He doesn’t know if she’ll see through their plan through whatever method she’s tracking them with, or if she’ll just chase after them and attack before they even reach The Retreat.

All he knows is that this is the last chance he has to survive.

Zetrak continues pushing his way through to The Retreat with the other Ascendants behind him, only to find The Reaper quietly waiting high above The Retreat. Not even bothering to conceal her immense aura of energy that’s flooding everything around the area.

After a brief pause, all of the Ascendants immediately begin rushing away as quickly as they can. But they don’t get far before they find themselves slamming into a massive wall of quantum energy covering several floating islands.

And sealing them all inside.

Some of the Ascendants attempt to teleport out or break through the wall, but none of them so much as make a scratch. Meanwhile Zetrak turns around to glare at the Quantum Reaper as she slowly floats towards them with her arms crossed over a scythe that’s stretching over her shoulder with the blade pointed behind her.

Zetrak first decided to target the Quantum Reaper because she was too powerful. Because those who are too powerful will always target anyone who is getting anywhere near their level of power. Either completely dominating them or slaying them outright.

That’s exactly what Zetrak did in his Dimensional Block. He took everyone forcibly under his control and killed anyone getting anywhere near his own power.

It’s simply a law of the universe.

The powerful must do this in order to stay at the top.

To eliminate all potential threats and make use of those who aren’t a threat.

And Zetrak absolutely refuses to end up in one of those positions himself. It’s not even just because of his spirit side’s pride anymore. He just can’t.

Most likely due to his experience of always being at the top, he can’t handle any position other than the top.

So when he heard the truth-seeker confirming that what the Quantum Reaper said was true, that she’s never done any of that or tortured anyone? He couldn’t believe it.

How could anyone get as powerful as her without doing that? It’s just not possible.

Or he thought it wasn’t possible.

So this is the very first thing he has ever regretted doing in his entire life.

Attacking the Quantum Reaper.

But it’s already too late to turn back.

“Attack all at once!” Zetrak shouts, his voice echoing over the skies and instantly making the other Ascendants release a barrage of attacks directly at the Quantum Reaper.

There’s still a minor chance they can win. All because of their significant numerical advantage.

Or at least, that was his line of thought until he sees the Quantum Reaper yawn as the attacks all slam into her one after another. Without a single one so much as scratching her.

Attacks that, not long ago, would’ve killed her on the spot, now aren’t even capable of harming her.

Zetrak feels his terror growing immensely for a moment before beginning to fizzle out. All to be replaced by a reluctant acceptance.

By resignation.

The other Ascendants, on the other hand, don’t seem to realize what situation they’re in. Either that or they’re just panicking as they continue firing off as many attacks as possible.

And when that doesn’t work, they begin launching their most powerful attacks.

One final card after another. Even destroying a nearby island in the process.

But despite their attempts, their most powerful, trump card attacks merely manage to injure the Quantum Reaper to a not too severe degree. Following which her body glitches out once and returns to perfect health again.

All it takes after that for them to break is one question directed at them by the Quantum Reaper.

“Are you done yet?”

Zatrek lets out a breath in resignation.

Utter defeat.

He moves closer to the Quantum Reaper, drawing her eye as he asks, “Is it true that you’ve never attacked other users without being provoked in some way?”

The Quantum Reaper nods her head and answers, “Yes. There would be no reason to attack some stranger for no reason. I can’t get anything from doing it, and they have nothing to do with me. Unless they attack me first, or the universe or System directs me to do it with a good reason, or they’re a potential problem for my friends, then I won’t bother.”

Zetrak closes his eyes as he begins to rethink his past position on things. On his very way of life.

After a few seconds, he opens his eyes again to find the Quantum Reaper already holding one of the Ascendants by the throat, only to snap his neck in moments. Then she moves on from one to the next, slaughtering them all with ease.

And when she finally gets to the last one before Zatrek, after the others try and fail to flee? The fire spirit that was the rudest to her out of all of them?

She uses quantum energy to glitch apart his arms and legs before using some sort of skill that makes the remainder of his body begin to glitch in even stranger ways than the rest of his body.

First it begins to glitch sideways, then vertically, then all over the place with glowing purple colors. But after a few seconds of this, his body begins to glitch with sparks of crimson mixed into the purple. Only for the sparks of crimson to eventually take over the man’s entire body.

All before his glitched body begins to shatter into pieces that then completely vanish from existence.

And what’s more terrifying is that all memories Zatrek had of him vanish along with his body. Making him briefly wonder who she just killed.

Then she finally reaches him and kills him by sweeping her arm and smashing his head in an instant, making everything go dark.

As she proves the absolute power of a transcendent.
