Chapter 302: James Space Station (6)
The control room stood alone in the midst of the jungle.
Inside, the woman frantically pressed the button on the console with trembling hands.
As the hydraulic cylinders hissed and the door closed, the sound of Velociraptor claws scratching at the control room door could be heard.
If the emergency shutdown had been just one second late, those raptors would have entered the control room in a perilous situation.
The woman leaned back in the control room chair, breathing heavily.
“Sob.”
Now the woman was left alone in this massive steel structure.
Her always-kind fiancé and the senior colleague who taught her many things had all been killed by those monsters.
Perhaps because there was no one else but her, the control room felt much cooler than before.
The woman tried to calm herself, slowly exhaling.
“Phew, I can’t die like this.”
She tried hard to describe the situation positively.
“It’s okay. Dinosaurs can never break through the Object bulkhead.”
Even though all her colleagues were dead, there were fierce dinosaurs outside, and it was the domain of the special-grade Object ‘Green Moon’.
“If I hold out here, rescue will surely come.”
The woman stood up and looked around the control room.
It was packed with computers, monitors, and various equipment.
The remaining operational period of the emergency Object generator in the control room was about 3 months.
She let out a deep sigh.
She had to use her head to survive.
She had to find a way to escape this desperate situation.
But she was too exhausted now.
The woman lay down on the floor and closed her eyes for a moment.
She wanted to forget this terrible reality, even if only in her dreams.
As she fell into a light sleep, the woman was awakened by a sudden emergency alarm.
Beep! Beep!
The woman quickly shook off her drowsiness and checked the monitor in the control room.
The CCTV screens showed raptors prowling near the control room.
But strangely, some of the CCTV connections were cut off.
“!”
The woman was startled by what she saw on the CCTV screen.
The raptor on the screen looked a bit strange.
It was as if its bones and flesh had melted and solidified in a twisted form.
Moreover, these twisted raptors were roaming around the control room, biting and destroying the external surveillance cameras.
“How on earth?”
There’s no way mere beasts like raptors could know the function of surveillance cameras!
The monitors that brightly lit the control room were gradually plunging into darkness one by one.
Haa. Haa.
Although the woman was protected inside the safe bulkhead, her breathing became increasingly rapid, consumed by an inexplicable fear.
Eventually, all the surveillance camera screens went dark.
It was as if she had suddenly gone blind.
The cries of the raptors.
The sound of claws mercilessly scratching the outer wall.
Though invisible, she could clearly sense the presence of the raptors.
At that moment, the ceiling light that dimly illuminated the control room flickered unsteadily.
“Don’t tell me the wiring…”
Just as the woman was startled and checking the control room console.
A red light started flashing on the control room screen.
Perhaps the wiring connecting the control room and the generator had been cut, exposed through the cracks in the outer wall that had been twisted and broken by the Green Moon.
Darkness descended on the control room as it began using the emergency battery for minimal system maintenance.
Along with the darkness came the cold.
Darkness, fear, cold.
The woman was huddled up, muttering to herself.
Rescue will come soon, so it’ll be okay.
The outer wall is fine even if an elephant steps on it, so it’ll be okay.
She startled every time she heard the sound of scratching on the outer wall, but the woman tried hard to calm herself.
How long had she endured like that, huddled against the cold and fear, when suddenly it became quiet as if all the raptors had disappeared.
Haa. Haa.
In the deafening silence, only the woman’s breathing echoed.
The woman stared blankly at the red flashing monitor in that silence and dozed off.
Beep!
In her hazy sleep, the woman heard the sound of the control room door opening.
How much time had passed?
Could it be that another survivor had reached the control room?
When the woman turned her head to check, she saw a vague silhouette beyond the open control room door.
Neither human nor dinosaur, but something.
‘How did it open the iris recognition security door?’
A natural question briefly crossed the woman’s mind, but in the middle of that silhouette, she could faintly see her senior colleague’s head, as if forcibly attached.
