Chapter 299: James Space Station (3)
The space station, engulfed by the Earth’s shadow.
The woman was making eye contact with a strange creature that emitted a soft glow in the darkness.
It was a bizarre life form she had never seen before, not on the space station or even on Earth, but strangely, it didn’t feel frightening.
“Ming!”
A cute cry.
Small enough to fit in her arms.
Two warm, golden eyes that brought peace to her mind.
A refreshing mint scent reminiscent of grass after rain.
Perhaps it was the combination of all these elements that made the strange creature feel this way.
The woman instinctively reached out to pet it but stopped herself, remembering the Objects she had seen as an Object researcher.
She had to be wary of Objects that appeared harmless or induced mental contamination to make them seem that way.
The moment she touched it, her wrist might disappear.
Thinking about it that way, the creature’s mouth suddenly seemed suspicious.
It felt as if she brought her hand close, that mouth might go ‘nom nom’ and bite it off!
The woman tried to resist the urge to pet the strange creature for safety, but then a thought occurred to her.
‘I’m going to die lonely in space anyway, so what difference does it make if I pet a cute little Object that looks like a small animal?’
With the endless cold enveloping the station, swallowed by shadow, she was likely to freeze to death soon anyway.
A mix of desperation, loneliness, and cold led the woman to cautiously extend her hand.
As her fingertips touched the moist-looking green surface, a warm sensation spread through her.
“Ming?”
It felt soft and fluffy like premium fur, and warm like a heat pack.
“It’s warm.”
Intoxicated by the warmth, the woman slowly embraced the strange creature.
“It’s really warm.”
Feeling the pulsing warmth in her arms, the woman hugged the creature tightly and quietly shed tears.
It felt as if all the fear and loneliness she had experienced alone on the station were melting away in its warmth.
Though her chances of survival were still slim, holding this creature made those worries fade away.
“Miiing!”
But the strange creature, seemingly uncomfortable, wriggled to escape from the woman’s embrace.
“Haha.”
Somehow finding it cute and amusing, the woman laughed.
And so, for the first time since the station had been overtaken by the Green Moon, the woman was able to laugh out loud.
