"This is unbelievable." Papa Chi said. "They were so happy last week, I escorted him when he bought the ring. We even planned the proposal together. If she did not want a serious relationship why didn’t she say so much earlier? He has wasted almost a year on relationship which has no future."
Papa Chi sat down and shook his head, he was still in disbelief as he thought about his son’s words.
"It’s for the best." grandpa Wang said. "I never approved of that relationship, she may be a good person but she had too much control over him. He is the next patriarch of the Chi family, he needs to have a back bone. And her character is also problematic, I asked only one question about her family at the first dinner when we met her and she almost bit my head off. I also know that she secretly blamed him for the actions of those maids that were fired. She is not good enough for him."
"Husband." Madam An looked around and shushed him hoping that nobody had heard his honest thoughts. "Control yourself, what if Wei returns and he hears you."
Old master Wang righteously pointed his nose in the air and he said, "You all thought the same thing but none of you dared to air your opinions. When Rize comes here she humbles herself, speaks politely and does some chores to fit in around the house like any other woman that is hoping to become a daughter-in-law in her boyfriend’s house. Every time she came here she sat down in one place waiting to be served like a princess. She would call the maids left and right as if they work for her. She acted more like a princess than the actual princess. Maybe she behaves that way because she grew up pampered in her family, I don’t know. All I know is that she did not exhibit the right traits of a future matriarch. If I am the villain in this story I will gladly be one because I have high expectations for the wife of the first son of this family."
"Honey." Madam An slapped her husband lightly on the arm. "Please stop talking." Anxiously, she kept looking at the doorway.
"If it were up to me he would be meeting daughters of other noble families and military families by next week. Of all our children whose marriages we have pushed who is unhappy?" Old master Wang challenged his wife.
All of their children were married, had children of their own and still together with their spouses.
"How do you know if they are happy?" Papa Chi asked. Many people suffered silently in unhappy marriages and they stayed for different reasons. What evidence was there that these arranged marriages of the Wang family were successful stories? Never would he willingly participate in forcing his son into an unhappy marriage.
