Chapter 255 Nod Along

"Really, that’s amazing... If it’s no problem, would you be willing to teach me a few enchantments and train me in hand combat?"

Roman spoke in a sweet voice that melted what was left of her guard, not that it mattered, since he would absolutely do it regardless.

’Teach him, he wants me to teach him... Wait, is he really an enchanter? I heard he’s an elemental mage; still, I don’t care. If there’s a slight chance of something happening between us, I’ll definitely take it; he’s so pretty’

"Of course! I’d be happy to," she said as she realized she hadn’t given an answer. She was so excited she had to remind herself not to act eager.

"Thank you. I really appreciate it." Roman smiled at her.

’He’s smiling at me’

She almost forgot what she was going to say, but she quickly got her thoughts together and looked around. They were still standing just outside the house, close to the door.

"We should probably move there. There’s space, and we won’t disturb anyone." She said, and Roman nodded.

She walked toward a clear area, a short distance from the house. The ground was flat, with room to move around without worrying about hitting anything.

When they reached the open space, she turned to face him. For a moment, she just looked at him, trying to find the words to start. This was the time she had been asked to teach someone, and the fact that it was a male made her even more nervous.

"Alright, let’s start with hand combat," she said, bringing her hands together as she tried to look like a proper instructor, just like how she was taught in the academy.

The guard was part of the city mages tasked with guarding the capital; not to confuse them with the mages on the city wall, their major job is to patrol the capital during the day and at night, in case of any issues ranging from theft to murder.

When Roman family arrived, she was told to guard their house, and so here she was.

"You see, being an enchanter isn’t as easy as people think. Most people assume that since enchanters can strengthen their bodies with magic, then they are equal to the rest of the magic types, but that is just wrong"

Roman tilted his head a little pretending like he had no idea what she was talking about. "Why not?"

"Because of the way our magic works. Most enchanters need to get close to their opponents before they can do damage. We can strengthen our bodies increase our speed improve our defense and even make our attacks stronger"

"But we still need to reach our enemies first. A normal mage on the other hand, can stand far away and attack with spells. They can throw fireballs, lightning, freeze the ground, or attack from any direction depending on their magic type. If we waste much time trying to reach them we might get hit several times before we even get close."

"I see what you’re getting at, so how do you usually deal with that?" Romans asked.

She nodded, happy that he was listening and her face lit up as he asked the question. She was worried he might find the explanation boring, but now that he asked a question she was feeling more confident and was going to extend the conversation even more.

"Speed is very important," she said.

"The first thing I usually do is use a speed enchantment even before the fight. It allows me to move faster than normal so I can cover the distance before my opponent has time to attack me properly. Also, I don’t just run straight toward them. That would make it easy for them to hit me. I try to move from side to side watch their hands and pay attention to where they’re looking. Once I notice an opening then I move in quickly."

’Really, who told her I needed lessons? I did this so I can learn enchantment spells; low-level spells wouldn’t require much mana, and I can stack lots of enchantments too. Why does she think she needs to teach me all of these... Well, I’ll just nod along’

She pointed toward him. "For example, if you’re fighting a mage and they raise their hand to cast a spell you can use that moment to move"

"Most spells require some kind of movement so if you can interrupt them before they finish you can stop the attack. Of course that doesn’t work on every mage and some can cast spells very quickly. That’s why you need to learn how to read your opponent."

Roman nodded slowly. "That makes sense."

"Once you’re close enough, you need to stay close. Don’t give them room to move away and start attacking from a distance. Keep your eyes on their body, not their face. Their shoulders, feet, and hips can tell you what they’re about to do. If you only watch their hands you might miss a sudden movement."

She paused, looked at him with a small smile. "That’s the idea anyway. There’s a lot more to it. You’ll understand better when you try it yourself. I’m sure you’ve been taught most of these at the academy; I just wanted to be proper. I’ve never really taught anyone before" She chuckled.

"You did a great job. I understood everything perfectly, and I think we should try it out" Roman replied.

She blinked. "Now?"

"I’m really interested in learning more enchantments, so if it’s not a problem, I’ll like to practice with you"

"Oh right! Of course." She quickly stepped back, took her position and turned towards him.

"Alright, I’ll show you a few moves first before showing you the spells. Don’t worry if you make mistakes. That’s what training is for."

Roman raised his hands in front of him, copying the stance she had taken. His posture wasn’t bad, but she could tell he hadn’t received much formal close combat training. His feet were placed a little close together, and his weight wasn’t balanced properly.

’I’ve never really seen a male interested in magic like this, not that I’ve seen many males, but this is my big chance to get close to him, and maybe one day, I’ll lose my virginity’
