Chapter 260: I still can’t take your word for it
The words, ’I am on your side,’ made Clarissa’s heart to throb, and it wasn’t painful; it was quite vague and maybe... Longing.
She bit her lip. Was Alice telling the truth? She couldn’t trust her. She could never believe her words because of the hatred that was swallowing her heart. But... Why did it seem like she wanted to believe Alice, word for word?
"Then," she let go of her. "Did you not know that guy was going to approach me? Why did you come out here if otherwise?"
"Well," Alice dropped one hand on her waist and brushed her hair back with the other, taking a cool stance. "I wanted to see if you were doing okay after all that. I didn’t mean to undermine you but," she shrugged. "You guys asked me to be serious so I let out a quarter of my true strength so it wouldn’t look like I was trying to undermine the opponent." She darted her eyes away. "I really didn’t have any ulterior motives, really."
Clarissa was a bit stunned. Maybe Alice wasn’t... Her heart kept thumping... So bad.
"In any case, I didn’t know such a thing would happen but I do know about that thing he was offering you." She said, moving towards the shattered potion on the floor.
She squatted, observed it, and frowned.
Alice thought she had at least gotten rid of the majority of the demon blood that was to be distributed, but what if that was just a small batch compared to the actual thing?
They still weren’t sure what role this demon blood circulation had to play but if the majority of humans were turned into demons, didn’t that mean that the few she got her hands on were just the crust in the pan?
"Clarissa," Alice called and turned her head to look up at her. "I know you don’t trust me, but can I at least trust you?"
"What are you...?’ Clarissa got agitated all of a sudden and yelled at her. "Don’t be ridiculous. How can you trust me when I don’t even trust you?" She asked, pressing her hand on her chest. "Don’t try to act like a good person just because you said a few good words. I will always suspect your motives and remain cautious around you." She stepped towards her. "I will do my best to get stronger than you and best you."
