"I’m okay, Luca, don’t worry," Kyra muttered back, smiling at Lucas as she held his hand. He looked at her with his clear ocean-blue eyes, searching her face, but then looked away.
Kyra felt a growing sense of urgency and decided that she needed to talk to the healer about what was going on. She couldn’t just sit by and do nothing.
"We’ve all gathered here to discuss this situation," Healer Angelo said. "All males ranked five and above, please visit the leader house tomorrow morning. We need to come up with a plan. With winter here, other tribes and towns are refusing to trade food with us, so we don’t have any choice."
"We will peacefully end this meeting here," the leader announced, signaling that it was time for everyone to leave.

Lucas, standing tall beside Kyra, didn’t hesitate. "I, Lucas the Silver Wolf, accept Damon’s challenge." His voice was calm, but firm, as he shook off Kyra’s arms. She had been holding onto him tightly, her eyes wide with worry as she shook her head, silently pleading for him to reconsider.
But Lucas had already made up his mind, and there was no turning back now.
"Battle in our beastmen forms," Damon repeated, and Lucas nodded in agreement.
