Even those ancient races, though close to achieving it, had never actually managed to accomplish it.

The truth was, they actually had achieved it.

And that was why they had been attacked by them and eventually erased.

But they had never truly been able to completely eradicate all of it. Some things were still safeguarded by the ancient human race.

And that was something these Void Humans had found. They had somehow even mastered it, becoming capable of producing it.

And from the looks of it, they had pushed it far beyond the level of a beginner. Before Dark Soul could think any further, Dark Knight moved.

There was no sign of movement. Nor were there any visual trails.

Suddenly, the space in front of the Dark Demon was torn open, and Dark Knight appeared through it, launching a sword attack.

CLANG!

The sword collided against the newly formed shield around the Dark Demon, and the impact—or rather, the force of the collision—reached all the way to Dark Soul’s spine as the Dark Demon was thrown pretty far back.

The shield suffered a gigantic crack.

Dark Soul gritted his teeth so hard that blood began to seep from his gums as he quickly controlled the Dark Demon and slashed toward the area on its right.

SLASH!

But the slash missed.

It didn’t hit anything, because there was nothing there to hit anyway.

Instead, Dark Knight appeared right behind the Dark Demon and pierced through its shield with his follow-up attack, destroying one of its plates and damaging the left thrusters of the Dark Demon, which even exploded, throwing the Dark Demon off balance once again.

"Damn it! Fight like a true knight, you human!"

Dark Soul was unable to contain his frustration as every counterattack he launched failed again and again, and his suffering only continued.

Ritika, who heard this, had no intention of replying at all. She simply laughed.

One attack after another, every jab thrown at her was quickly deflected and countered with a fierce attack of her own.

Every feint against her was met with another brutal counter, to the point that the newly formed shield around the Dark Demon was once again destroyed, and even its armor plating was stripped away and burned in some places.

’Damn this human pilot. They are toying with me.’ Dark Soul realized it with a surge of dread, a dreadful coldness surrounding him.

He felt like he was fighting against a monster far above his caliber.

At the same time, as the Grand Marshal of the Radiant Armada, he also had to pay attention to the main battlefield.

And through his HUD display, Dark Soul was witnessing nothing but slaughter and destruction of his armada.

The longer his battle continued, the more ships of his armada were sunk and the more people of his armada were killed.

Not too far away, in the vanguard area, one of the heavy battleships, Leonidas, had almost lost its main shield generators and wasn’t too far away from collapse.

Dozens of human starfighters were swarming its superstructure like hornets, along with human mechs that easily avoided the turret batteries’ counterattacks with complete precision. And even when they were hit, they were still fine.

The crew of the Leonidas was already calling for reinforcements. And situations like this were not uncommon throughout the three fronts of the battlefield.

Pushing his thrusters to maximum overdrive, he broke away from the duel and charged straight toward the human fleet’s battleline.

If he couldn’t defeat their commander, he would butcher her soldiers until she had no choice but to break off the chase and pull back.

That was the only countermeasure he could come up with—and his last remaining chance. He knew full well the immense danger involved; he couldn’t reasonably expect the enemy mech to simply sit back and watch him slaughter her crew and tear through her fleet.

Yet he had no other choice. It was a desperate gamble he had to take, or risk perishing without leaving a mark. Most importantly, he had no intention of dying here today. He refused to accept such an end, and within him, White Kalen was even more unwilling to fade into nothingness.

Meanwhile, hot on his tail, Ritika immediately saw through the Republican commander’s reckless gambit. His intentions were painfully obvious from the trajectory of his sprint.

The playful smirk on her face faded, replaced by cold disdain.

"Is this Grand Marshal of the Republics trying to play a trick of besieging Wei to save Zhao? Isn’t that tactic a little too low-level?"

Ritika quickly discerned the intentions of Dark Soul.

At this moment, not too far away, one of the starfighter squadrons and mech squadrons together had separated one of the Republican battleships and were launching attack after attack against it.

Its shield was rippling constantly, as if it were on the verge of collapse.

The Republican battleship still had some fight left in it and was launching fierce counterattacks, but it wasn’t doing much to improve its situation.

Even though it was obvious to her what was happening, Ritika had no choice but to go and stop Dark Soul from doing what he wanted.

Which shouldn’t be hard anyway.

After all, as a High Admiral, she just couldn’t stand by and watch a berserk person target the progress of her fleet members—not when she had the ability to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Attack where the enemy must defend, huh?

Well, it must be said that this Grand Marshal of the Republics still had some brains, unlike the others.

His goal was simple.

He wanted to temporarily draw her attention away from the whole battlefield and focus it solely on him. Once that was achieved, a huge burden would be lifted from him. He would have some freedom of movement and, most importantly, he could preserve himself.

And maybe, he could even take this as a chance to escape altogether.
