Chapter 503: Ch 503
"Wha—"
Just as the three of them were about to sign off, they heard her words and couldn’t help but yelp in surprise. Still, none of them spoke up to stop her from taking to the battlefield herself.
They merely exchanged helpless glances, all too aware of their High Admiral’s sheer prowess. She was an absolute force of nature. With one last look, they quietly saluted and set off toward their respective command posts to carry out their orders.
Ritika’s smile widened at their reaction. She gave a small shake of her head and pressed a button on the armrest. A hatch opened directly beneath her, and the entire command seat dropped down into the launch bay.
Just before vanishing, her voice echoed across the bridge: "Violet, I’m leaving the fleet in your hands for now."
With that, Ritika was gone.
Left behind was a striking red-haired young woman, eyes wide with a look of utter helplessness.
Violet rolled her eyes and let out a soft sigh before stepping forward to assume control of Ritika’s fleet. As a top commanding officer, managing the fleet was second nature to her; she had been at the top of her commanding class back at the academy, after all.
Meanwhile, Ritika materialized inside the sleek cockpit of a slender mecha, its frame a brilliant purple trimmed with sharp golden accents.
In its right hand, the machine gripped a sword that looked as though it had been carved entirely from glowing purple crystal. In its left, it held a massive, purple-shielded kite defense with silver etchings along the rim—a broad, domed top curving down to a tapered, pointed base.
To say the mecha looked menacing was an understatement, especially with a cockpit crest shaped like the roaring head of a wolf.
"Let’s go, Knight Wolf," Ritika murmured as the machine surged to life.
The Knight Wolf’s optics flickered with a violent purple light before stabilizing into a steady glow.
BUZZZ!
The launch bay floor parted beneath the frame. The Knight Wolf dropped in a clean free-fall, clearing the ventral bay of the Super Star Destroyer Kaiser Noctis.
BOOM!
Pushing the controls forward, Ritika slammed the thrusters to maximum output, rocketing directly toward the incoming vanguard of the Republican armada.
Across the void, Dark Soul caught sight of the lone purple streak detaching from Ritika’s fleet. A sneer twisted his lips. "Hmph! Don’t even think you’re getting out of this alive. Throwing away your range advantage was your fatal mistake."
In his eyes, the humans’ only real edge had been their long-range bombardment and absurd firepower. Terrifying against standard warships, yes, but against him? A completely different story. His mech was a masterpiece of true fusion—seamlessly intertwining his high-level cultivation with advanced wartech, multiplying his combat power ten-fold.
That exponential surge pushed him to the very brink of the Genesis Integration Realm. Even if it was only a half-step over the threshold, it elevated his raw strength to a monstrous peak.
Within his sea of consciousness, even White Kalen felt a chill run through him. Yet the spectral figure held his tongue, watching intently as an oppressive, terrifying aura tore through the vacuum at breakneck speed.
"Watch out—something’s coming! FAST!" White Kalen shouted.
Dark Soul merely grunted. Moving on pure instinct, he flooded massive reserves of mana directly into his energy blade and brought it down in a decisive, crushing slash.
CLANG!! BOOM!!
The screech of metal clashing rang out—even though no physical blades had touched—followed instantly by a violent shockwave erupting from the epicenter of the collision.
The blast hurled Dark Soul hundreds of meters backward.
The attacker, however, remained completely stationary in the void.
Dark Soul’s optics refocused, finally catching a clear view of his opponent: a sleek purple mech radiating an oppressive, fearsome aura. He clicked his tongue, grit his teeth, and burst forward once more, slashing ferociously at the human machine.
Ritika smirked from within her cockpit as Dark Soul charged in with ferocious momentum. Unfazed, she raised her kite shield directly into the path of his descending blade.
CLANG!
The energy sword, condensed to solid density, slammed dead center against the shield—only to be violently deflected off-axis.
Without missing a beat, Ritika countered with a lethal thrust of her crystal blade, aiming straight for the cockpit.
"Dammit!" Dark Soul cursed under his breath, frustrated by the effortless parry. He wrenched his controls back, desperately maneuvering to evade.
SWISH!
[Warning: Energy shield down to 62 percent.]
A single glancing blow had shaved off eight percent of his shields, and the blade had barely even grazed the perimeter barrier.
Dark Soul’s frustration only mounted as he wrestled his mech back under control, shaking off the kinetic force that had sent him skidding through the void.
Suddenly, his eyes snapped wide open. Acting on pure reflex, he cut hard to the right while swinging his back-mounted cannon around to fire point-blank into the empty space beside him, desperately burning thrusters to create distance.
BOOM!!
The blast detonated just in time to intercept a lethal slash from the Knight Wolf. As if caught off-guard, Ritika was engulfed by the sudden explosion, a brilliant fireball blooming where her frame had just been.
Dark Soul stayed on high alert. Refusing to take chances, he pumped several more high-yield shots into the center of the fireball, detonating the area in a continuous chain of fire.
Just as a lethal premonition spiked his senses into overdrive, he whipped around—only to realize he was already far too late. A massive, radiant sword slash was already descending upon him.
BOOM!
"UGHHH!" Dark Soul grunted in agony as the sheer concussive force sent his mech tumbling uncontrollably through space. The ambush had left him zero time to react, dealing a devastating blow.
[Warning: Energy shield integrity down to 35 percent.]
"H-Hey, old man!" White Kalen’s voice spiked with urgency, a hint of panic creeping onto his face as he spoke. "Wh-what is going on? Why are you struggling so much with that kind of strength? The enemy isn’t that strong, are they?"
Dark Soul felt a surge of pure frustration and boiling rage. He wanted nothing more than to reach into his sea of consciousness and throttle the little piece of trash.
Can’t this fool tell that the enemy is even stronger than me?! he cursed inwardly as he dove his mech downward.
Dark Soul knew that in a direct one-on-one duel, his chances of defeating this human pilot were slim. Her mech was on par with his own—if not outright superior in sheer output. He was deeply shocked that humanity possessed such a machine, an artifact-tier craft that should have been exclusive to those seven supreme figures in the galaxy.
Looks like the rumors hold some truth after all. The humans really did inherit the legacy of the ancients, and this mecha is definitely a product of that lost tech. Even their warships might share the same origin... No wonder they’re this terrifying,Dark Soul analyzed grimly, constantly evading the purple mech’s relentless pursuit and relentless flurry of strikes.
Oh no—
Without warning, a lethal silhouette materialized directly above his cockpit. He registered the threat, but his reflexes lagged by a fraction of a second—just enough to leave him exposed.
BANG! CRACK!
Another devastating sword strike slammed into his energy barrier. The shield flickered violently, spiderweb fractures rippling across its luminous surface.
[Warning: Shield integrity down to 9 percent.]
"Dammit!" Dark Soul cursed, flashing away from the impact zone with a desperate burst of thrusters.
"Deploy auxiliary shields!" he barked through gritted teeth.
Several armor panels along his mech slid open, releasing a set of floating, coffin-shaped defense plates—each about one and a half meters tall and half a meter wide. They deployed in a tight perimeter around his chassis, stabilizing his shattered defenses.
At this moment, Dark Soul War was already drenched in cold sweat, his expression heavy.
His most powerful reliance, the Dark Demon Mech—a perfect fusion of technology and mana, capable of producing a next-level boost and pushing its pilot’s strength to another level—was helpless against the entity it was facing.
Even though things of this level were practically nonexistent in this galaxy altogether, something so hard to believe was unfolding right in front of his eyes.
And he was the victim on top of it all.
Throughout this short but somehow long battle, Dark Soul had realized that the mech the human pilot was using was no different from his own. It had mastered the fusion of the two fields, combining their powers into one.
This was to his utter shock.
And not only was the mech the same, but every warship, every starfighter, and every mech were all the same. They were all made through the perfect fusion of these two fields—the technology of the universe and the magical energy and mysticism created within it.
Just as his thoughts were diving deeper and deeper, he found himself questioning this strange enemy.
