Chapter 254: Meeting Divine Doctor Xue Again
Chapter 254: Meeting Divine Doctor Xue Again
As Lin Chen’s cries of “Daddy” echoed again and again, Wang Haoran kept raking in rewards. But soon, as expected, the returns began to dwindle. And eventually, the system stopped rewarding him entirely.
Still, the haul from this little humiliation session had been substantial. Very satisfying even.
“Alright, enough,” Wang Haoran waved lazily, noticing there were no more system prompts coming in. He didn’t care to keep hearing “Daddy” without a payoff.
“Daddy… Daddy…” Lin Chen repeated a few more times out of habit before he finally stopped. With a deep breath, he forced a serious expression and said, “I’ve already fulfilled your condition. I called you ‘Daddy’ more times than I can count. Now can we swap cars—your Bugatti for my Pagani?”
Wang Haoran nodded slowly and said with a perfectly straight face, “Mhm. I’ll think about it.”
“You… you—what?!” Lin Chen’s face twisted in disbelief. The shock, the betrayal, the fury—it all showed plainly on his childish little face.
“Where did I go back on my word?” Wang Haoran asked calmly. “Think carefully. What exactly did I say to you?”
Lin Chen paused, mentally rewinding the earlier conversation, then grudgingly repeated, “You said… I didn’t have to add money. As long as I called you ‘Daddy,’ you’d consider swapping cars.”
“There you go.” Wang Haoran shrugged. “I said I’d consider it. Never said I’d definitely do it.” “You—! You! YOU!” Lin Chen snapped, lunging toward Wang Haoran like a furious little beast.
Wang Haoran calmly reached out and pressed one hand against Lin Chen’s forehead, keeping him at arm’s length with minimal effort.
The kid’s short little arms flailed around in the air, trying to reach his shirt, but they weren’t even close. No matter how hard he struggled, he couldn’t touch him.
After a while, Lin Chen just exhausted himself, panting like a winded puppy. The whole scene looked absurdly comical.
But the only onlooker—Bian Suwen—didn’t find it funny at all.
“Xiao Chen, go find the other sisters. I need to speak to him alone,” she said.
“Third Sister, this guy’s slippery as hell. He’s not a good person. You shouldn’t be alone with him,” Lin Chen warned seriously.
“Do you think your Third Sister needs protection from someone like him?” she asked, eyes cool and composed.
Lin Chen paused, then nodded reluctantly. Third Sister wasn’t just a Grandmaster-level doctor—her martial strength was nothing to scoff at either. She could definitely handle herself if things went south.
“Give him a good beating for me,” Lin Chen whispered with a scowl, before stomping off.
Now only Wang Haoran and Bian Suwen remained on the rooftop.
She looked at him earnestly, her expression sincere. “I really need your help. Please, transfer your Bugatti to me. Whatever condition you want—I’ll agree to it.”
The way she said it… it was easy to let your mind wander.
But Wang Haoran knew better. If he really named something over the line, she’d turn cold in an instant.
After a brief moment of thought, he stepped forward and softened his voice. “I was just teasing your little brother earlier. Don’t take it to heart. It’s just a car. If you want it, I’ll give it to you.”
With that, he pulled the car keys from his pocket and laid them flat on his open palm.
Bian Suwen froze.
【Ding! Female Lead Bian Suwen’s Favorability toward Host increased by 10. Current Favorability: 30 (Very Friendly)】
【Ding! Host has influenced the plot. Gained 600 Villain Points. Lin Chen’s Protagonist Halo -30. Host’s Villain Halo +30!】
She hesitated for a second before reaching out to take the keys. But just as her fingers closed around them, Wang Haoran suddenly grabbed her hand.
Her pupils contracted slightly. “W-What are you doing?”
Wang Haoran’s voice grew distant, dreamy. “Sometimes, I have these dreams. I see a figure—vivid and haunting. Do you know who it is?”
“I-I wouldn’t know,” she said, avoiding his gaze.
He took a step closer.
She instinctively stepped back… and kept stepping until her back hit the edge of the rooftop wall. She had nowhere else to go.
“Do you want to know who it is?” he asked softly, leaning in just enough that his breath brushed her cheek.
This time, she didn’t dodge his eyes.
She looked straight at him.
Compared to a few years ago, he really had changed. His appearance had matured, and he now carried the aura of a true Rich Second Gen—refined, noble, utterly arresting. Even those famed sons of Heaven in the Imperial Capital couldn’t compete with him in sheer presence.
【Ding! Female Lead Bian Suwen’s Favorability toward Host increased by 10. Current Favorability: 40 (Very Friendly)】
【Ding! Host has influenced the plot. Gained 600 Villain Points. Lin Chen’s Protagonist Halo -30. Host’s Villain Halo +30!】
She stared.
For minutes, she just looked—almost entranced.
Then, finally, she seemed to catch herself. Her gaze cooled, her expression returned to its usual calm.
“I don’t want to know. And if you keep acting this rude, I won’t go easy on you,” she said sharply.
That was his cue.
Wang Haoran smiled faintly and let go of her hand.
Bian Suwen felt her wrist fall back to her side, but her heart felt unexpectedly empty—just for a moment.
She quickly gathered herself, snatched the keys, and headed for the parking lot.
A short while later, the Bugatti was gone—and she was back at the hospital.
But she didn’t return alone.
Wang Haoran watched from afar as she led someone down the hallway. The moment he got a good look at the newcomer, he raised an eyebrow.
It was none other than Divine Doctor Xue. The same man, Wang Haoran, had tricked into a career-ending mistake not long ago.
But compared to a few months ago, Divine Doctor Xue looked like a different man entirely—unkempt beard, hollow cheeks, weary eyes. All the arrogance and swagger were gone. He looked… broken.
Apparently, life hadn’t been kind to him these past months.
Xue hadn’t met Wang Haoran face-to-face during the last incident, so he didn’t recognize him. To him, everyone present—aside from Bian Suwen—were strangers.
He glanced at Qiu Qianwei, Liu Yue, Ji Shuyao, and finally Wang Haoran before asking, “Senior, these people are…?”
“These are my younger sisters and brother,” Bian Suwen said casually. Then she gestured at Wang Haoran. “And this is… my friend.”
That word—friend—came out naturally. With 40 Favorability, she had every reason to say it comfortably.
Xue respectfully bowed to each person. “Nice to meet you, nice to meet you…”
Though older in age, his rank was junior to Bian Suwen. These were her peers and personal connections—he dared not be arrogant.
Wang Haoran couldn’t help but sigh to himself.
Just a few months ago, this same guy looked down on everyone like they were insects. Now he was as courteous as a monk. Life had clearly taught him a lesson or two.
Wang Haoran was even starting to feel a little bad—
—Until Lin Chen spoke.
“You’re older, so aside from my Third Sister, no need to be so formal with the rest of us.”
Xue looked at the boy, surprised by the maturity in his tone.
Bian Suwen added with a smile, “This is my little brother. He’s a child prodigy. Don’t let his age fool you—he’s deeply studied in medicine.”
“Really?” Xue’s eyes lit up. He reached out and shook Lin Chen’s hand. “Nice to meet you, truly.”
“I told you, no need for all this,” Lin Chen said with mock modesty.
“Nonsense! Courtesy is a virtue,” Xue replied with a chuckle.
One old, one young—chatting away like kindred spirits.
Watching them bond, Wang Haoran quietly retracted any sympathy he’d started to feel.
For a second there, he thought this guy had lost his plot role. That maybe the Invincible War God Su Lang had finally croaked for good, and Divine Doctor Xue would stop stirring up trouble.
But no—he’d barely gotten out of jail, and he was already buddying up with another protagonist.
Trouble was brewing again.
