Chapter 244: Not a Good Person
“You… You said what now, boss?”
The group that came with Wang Haoran fell into stunned silence. Liu Hua was the first to react and spoke up.
“I said call the police,” Wang Haoran repeated calmly.
“Boss, that’s a bit…” Liu Hua hesitated, clearly wanting to say it was embarrassing, but didn’t dare finish.
Wang Haoran immediately saw through it and snapped, “Are you stupid? What are we? We’re students—we’re the vulnerable party here.”
As he said this, his gaze flicked over to Ye Qiu, who was standing to the side, and added, “And that guy? Clearly some street thug. He just snapped Lu Ming’s arm like it was nothing. He definitely has some backing—might even be gangs for all we know.”
Without waiting, he barked, “Hurry up and call the police!”
“Yes, yes!” Liu Hua didn’t dare delay any longer. He quickly pulled out his phone and dialed.
【Ding! Host deviates from expected behavior, altering the plot trajectory. Gained 600 Villain Points. Ye Qiu’s Protagonist Halo -30. Host’s Villain Halo +30!】
Collecting the reward with satisfaction, Wang Haoran grinned inwardly and tapped into the system, using his probe function to scan the man in sandals and tank top. In seconds, the information popped into his mind.
【Protagonist: Ye Qiu】
【Combat Power: 1322】
【Charm: 95】
【Protagonist Halo: 1323】
【Skills (Golden Finger): Grandmaster-level Assassination, Grandmaster-level Disguise, Grandmaster-level Tracking, All-Weapon Mastery, Affinity Halo (easily gains others’ trust)】
From his stats, Ye Qiu was clearly some sort of assassin-type protagonist—and a pretty strong one too.
Compared to that shameless war god Su Lang, Ye Qiu was superior in raw power, setting halos aside.
But against Wang Haoran? He was just another walking freebie.
Having gleaned enough from the scan, Wang Haoran looked up.
On the other side, Ye Qiu froze for a moment, clearly thrown off by Wang Haoran telling his lackeys to call the police.
He’d been fully ready to throw hands, but this? This was completely outside the script. He actually felt a little… outplayed.
“SIster Zhenyu, I heard from Wen Jing that she saw you at school earlier. I thought she was seeing things, but turns out it really is you,” Wang Haoran turned to Song Zhenyu with a smile.
Seeing a familiar face, Song Zhenyu lit up with joy. “I’m applying to grad school at Qingling University. I knew you all were studying here, so I wanted to get in touch. But I accidentally broke my SIM card—all my numbers were on that one.”
Wang Haoran nodded slightly, understanding, but still asked, “Why not just replace the card? Why change numbers entirely?”
She hesitated for a moment before replying, “The old SIM wasn’t registered under my name, so I couldn’t get a replacement. I had no choice but to get a new number.”
Wang Haoran’s eyes caught the subtle change in her expression. Clearly, she wasn’t telling the full truth—but whatever the real reason was, it probably had nothing to do with him.
After all, her current Favorability toward him was 40—“Very Friendly”. She wouldn’t avoid him on purpose. So whatever the real reason was, she was clearly dodging the topic.
But Wang Haoran didn’t press her on it.
“Oh, right, Haoran,” Song Zhenyu pointed toward Lu Ming, who was still on the ground cradling his arm. “Do you know him?”
“He’s my roommate,” Wang Haoran answered truthfully, then immediately asked, “Did he do anything inappropriate to you?”
“Not exactly,” she replied. “He didn’t touch me, but he did stop me and ask for my number. That’s all.”
Wang Haoran nodded, dismissing the idea of beating up Lu Ming to gain favor with Song Zhenyu. Instead, he turned to Lu Ming and said, “This is my high school teacher. You get what I mean, right?”
Lu Ming flinched. “Boss, I didn’t know! If I’d known she was yours, I wouldn’t have dared—not even if I had a hundred lives!”
“The hell are you talking about?” Wang Haoran kicked him, annoyed.
Sure, that was what he was thinking… but why say it out loud, idiot?
Song Zhenyu’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment, and she glanced at Wang Haoran.
He quickly added, “Sister Zhenyu, he’s just joking around. I’ve always respected you.”
“Teacher, teacher, I was just kidding earlier,” Lu Ming quickly tried to salvage the situation. “What I meant was—don’t worry, I won’t bother you again. I’m really sorry!”
Hearing this, Song Zhenyu visibly relaxed and returned to her calm demeanor.
“Sister Zhenyu,” Wang Haoran asked, glancing at Ye Qiu, “Are you two close?”
“He’s my landlord,” she replied. “I’m renting a place to focus on studying, and he offered to help me move my things.”
Wang Haoran raised a brow. “So… you two just met?”
She nodded. “Yes.”
“Then he’s up to no good,” Wang Haoran said bluntly. “Helping you move after just meeting you? Please. No one’s that nice without a motive.”
Ye Qiu quickly interjected, “I just saw a young lady struggling and offered to help. That’s it. Plus, we registered everything with the police—there’s nothing shady going on.”
Wang Haoran rolled his eyes.
These protagonists were so full of crap. Always acting noble while secretly trying to hook up with the female lead.
Sure enough, Song Zhenyu didn’t seem suspicious of him at all.
Wang Haoran knew this was the effect of Ye Qiu’s Affinity Halo.
Still, he added, “Sister Zhenyu, you never really know people. If something actually happens, it’ll be too late for regrets.” He then turned to the side.
“Qin Yunhan, don’t you agree with me?”
“Totally!” Qin Yunhan echoed, giving Ye Qiu a disgusted side-eye. She leaned toward Song Zhenyu and whispered, “Teacher, this guy totally looks like a creep. He’s definitely not a good person.”
With her Favorability toward Wang Haoran at 99, she had no interest in Ye Qiu whatsoever. His Affinity Halo didn’t work on her at all.
