Noah was called away suddenly leaving me with Janet in the office, he said the matter required urgency and asked us to hold on for him while he finished up with it quickly and returned to us. He was in the middle of explaining how I make decisions without consulting him and I was curious to listen to it too.
"So," Janet said after a while, I noticed she had been trying to get my attention since Noah left "We could make small talk or you could tell me about yourself, how you grew up or something until the King comes back. How about that?"
"No!" I said bluntly without looking up from my phone "The only conversation I will have with you is during these sessions and of course questions related to what you’re being paid to do. Aside from that, please fuck off!"
"Don’t tell me you’re still angry about yesterday, Luna," she chuckled warmly as if I was nothing more than an irate child seeking attention. "C’mon Luna, you know I didn’t mean any of those things I said or asked. I thought I was doing my job and since you do not like it, it won’t happen again, I promise,".
"Good for you," I replied with my eyes still peeled on my phone.
I could feel her stare burning into my skin but I continued with my phone. A few seconds later, Noah entered the room, from the door, I could feel his discomfort as he walked briskly and settled on the space beside me. Our eyes met and he gave me a long, hard stare making me uncomfortable before he turned to Janet.
"Can we pick off from where we stopped?’ he asked.
"Are you sure?" Janet must have noticed his cold demeanour "If you’re not in the mood, we could reschedule and meet later today. When you’re more settled and calmer,".
