Chapter 43: She Can’t Resist Good Food.
"Ms. Tan, I’m sorry to bother you with so many calls. And now, I came straight to see you without an appointment. I hope you don’t feel any pressure because of this." He smiles.
She just stood still don’t know what to say.
"I’m not going to waste your time. Let me introduce myself; my name is Rexi Nelson; I’m from Golden House. I’m Mr. Daniel Adam’s assistant..." He paused for a moment to see Mel’s reaction. However, he couldn’t see any expression coming from her. Mel keeps calm and collected. Rexi continues, "my intention to see Ms. Tan is to convey an invitation from Mr. President himself." Now he said it with pride and dignity.
He hands Mel’s a gold envelope.
Mel saw an envelope with her name written on it. A sense of unease starting to engulf her. She holds herself from accepting the invitation and halted her arm from moving forward.
Rexi realizes Mel is holding back. He then adds, "Mr. President would like to thank you for saving his child from kidnapping."
Now everyone is silent.
After seemingly forever, Mel finally spoke, "Thank you for the honor, Mr. Rexi. With all due respect, please tell Mr. President that he doesn’t need to invite me to Golden House to show his gratitude. What I did is my obligation as the good citizen of X and a human being."
She smiles lightly and adds, "Also, I helped the boy, not because of his identity, but it’s like an instinct to me. Whenever I saw someone in danger, I rush trying to help them as much as I can."
