Chapter 44: Meet Professor Alberto (1)
’Who is she? Why did God send her to this small town? For what purpose?’
Xavier put aside his curiosity and stood up from his chair. Iris and the others also got up and left the room. However, just as they were about to exit the building, someone called out to Iris from behind.
When Iris looked back, she was surprised to see a thin, middle-aged man with gray hair standing not far from her. She tried to contain her emotions as she met his gaze, offering a polite smile before asking, "Yes, Professor Alberto... Why did you call me?"
Alberto West didn’t respond immediately; instead, he slowly adjusted his crescent moon glasses. Iris couldn’t shake off the uneasy feeling about this man. Given what she knew, he was a predator in the dark.
"Iris Gray, follow me. I have something to discuss with you," Alberto said, motioning for her to join him as he walked toward a side entrance. The path led to another building designated for staff and professors.
Iris felt puzzled by his request, her mind swirling with questions. ’Why would he suddenly want to talk to me?’ As far as she knows, this is the first time this professor has done this.
"I’ll come with you," Xavier’s voice near her ear surprised her.
Turning to look at him, Iris saw Xavier walking beside her. Somehow, his presence brought her a sense of relief. She wasn’t afraid of Professor Alberto, but she understood the importance of maintaining her reputation here—she couldn’t risk jeopardizing it by taking this old man’s life in this place, right!?
"Thank you," Iris whispered to Xavier with a smile. She then caught up with Alberto, who had already reached the door to his office room.
