Chapter 32: Stop Confusing Me
"I said, I’ll take care of your granddaughter, Ms. Gray. If Iris is still willing to accept me..." Xavier stated, looking directly into Iris’ eyes as if he were now confessing his love to her.
His words nearly caused her to collapse, as her knees felt like jelly. In a flash, she held onto the edge of the bed to steady herself and tried to calm her rapidly beating heart.
"H-Heaven! Xavier, are you serious?" Cassandra’s voice sounded ecstatic on the other end.
"Yes, Ms. Gray. I meant every word," Xavier confirmed.
Cassandra couldn’t help but smile with joy. She was thrilled that her granddaughter’s dream of becoming Xavier’s lover had come true. "My granddaughter would be over the moon if she learned about this. Have you told her? I mean, how do you think she would react?" she asked curiously.
Before Xavier could answer, Iris swiftly grabbed her cell phone from his hand, "Grandma, I’ll call you later. I need to talk to Xavier first!" Iris said while trying to turn off the speakerphone, but it was too late as her grandmother continued her sentence.
"Iris, Grandma is so happy for you. Alright... Alright... I will stop talking now. You talk to Xavier. And you don’t need to come home tonight, you can sleep at Xavier’s place. It’s so late now, and I suddenly feel sleepy." Cassandra said. Her voice was heard clearly by Xavier, standing in a corner looking up at the dark sky outside.
Iris was rendered speechless as she stared at her phone screen, which had turned black after the call was abruptly disconnected.
’I can’t believe Grandma would ask me to sleep over at Xavier’s house,’ she thought to herself as she nervously pocketed her phone and met Xavier’s gaze.
