Chapter 90: The Girl I Know
She followed Evan’s walk to the elevator. Somehow, Rose feels blessed for using her sneakers. If she had worn high heels to enter this vast mall, she might have given up using her heels halfway through the mall and walked barefoot before she got home.
"You can’t lie to me, Rose...." Evan took her hand and squeezed it gently. "I can see from your forehead that you’re thinking about something. Did you feel sad because we can’t look around?"
Rose was taken aback at his words. Evan totally could read her mood. Indeed she was a little disappointed. But, she also felt that it was not something to fuss about.
"You guess wrong, Evan." She chuckled. "I told you I have to unpack...."
"Haha, fine! Rose, I promise you, we will come here again tomorrow...."
"No need to hurry. I’m not staying here for a few days. I have plenty of time to come here again..." Rose smiled to re-assured him. But something else has occupied her mind. Her mind was busy guessing the girl’s identity who was chatting with Evan. Also, trying to imagine Evan’s reasons for avoiding introducing the girl to her.
Evan’s gesture toward the girl in a black dress was very different from what she was used to seeing on campus. He always put on a straight face when a woman approached him. The girl must be someone he knew so well.
Who is she? His high school friend? Thinking about high school, Rose instantly felt her heart tighten at the thought that the girl was Evan’s first crush.
Rose looked at Evan who smiled at her, it made her heart feel a little softer. She smiled back at him and walked out of the mall.
