Chapter 73: Husband and Wife?
Abigail is entirely shocked. His earnest voice and expression cause her heart to race again. The "thump, thump" sounds in her heart grow loud and fast while her mind is blurred and even blank.
"Sawyer, that’s a sacred word for a woman. You can’t say it jokingly like that..."
Abigail tried to warn him calmly, but her trembling voice betrayed her, reflecting her nervousness after hearing him no longer ask her to be his girlfriend but rather to marry him instead.
’Why did he suddenly have such an idea? Didn’t he promise to wait until I was ready!?’ She felt helpless now—Sawyer had completely confused her mind.
"I’m not joking when I say those words. They come from my heart, Abby."
Abigail struggled to respond and could not express what was on her mind. Her eyes darted as she gazed into his.
"To be honest with you, I never imagined I could fall in love with anyone so quickly. I’ve even believed you are the right woman I want to spend the rest of my life with."
Abigail lowered her head to avoid Sawyer’s gaze, worried that what she was about to say might hurt him.
"Sawyer, you broke your promise," she whispered, though Sawyer could still hear her.
Instantly, Sawyer’s face tensed. ’Damn it! Have I ruined everything again? Now she’s angry with me?’
His hands gripped the steering wheel tightly as he stared blankly at the road ahead, filled with regret for asking her to marry him so suddenly without considering her feelings.
