Chapter 287: Arren’s Adventures (1)
When Arren climbed out of the sewers, he was already aware that what he would be seeing was an abandoned playground, but he still chose to be cautious. Only after he made sure he couldn’t hear any sounds in his vicinity did he open the lid and reveal himself.
As he sat on the ground, Arren exhaled heavily, but there was now a slight sense of relief within him. He allowed himself to relax for a while; after all, he was too tense earlier, and he deserved these seconds of calm.
Not even a minute later, he had already composed himself, putting the almost worn-off lid back in its place. He didn’t dare linger in the place, and he quickly left the area.
Although he had the assurance that even if his disappearance was discovered, they would not immediately know where he was. At least, their best course of action was to find Arren in the mansion first, as they didn’t know that he would have knowledge of any hidden paths there.
This was also a time when he needed to plan how he would leave the city.
Arren looked around and pursed his lips. He had no intention of going into a place with crowded people. It wasn’t because he wasn’t in his most presentable state, that wasn’t the biggest issue.
He was someone that most of the citizens of the empire might recognize if they saw him outside; even those not completely aware of royal affairs still had a chance of seeing his face once, may it be on the news or social media.
Even if there weren’t, Arren would still assume that anyone could recognize him. This was for his own safety. Normally, this would certainly be to his advantage, especially if he was lost. He could just ask anyone, and no one would be indifferent to the prospect of owing a noble a favor, much less the emperor’s lover.
The problem was, he wasn’t merely lost; he was kidnapped, and he was on the possible turf of the enemy no less. He couldn’t just use his face or status as insurance. He wasn’t on guard for the citizens, as it would be impossible for all of them to be part of the organization, but for the forces in the dark.
